Stormzy is in the best shape of his life, and he’s certainly not afraid to flaunt it.
New photos show the Vossi Bop hitmaker as we’ve never seen him before, having hit the gym and transformed his physique with an intense workout regime and strict diet.
The 31-year-old rapper has opened up about his image overhaul and essentially venturing into athlete territory, explaining that adjusting to his new lifestyle has taken hard grafting.
‘Waking up this morning, going to the gym, I’d much rather not do that. I’d rather scroll on TikTok or have a fry-up,’ he began in the most relatable sentence to come from a celebrity in 2024.
‘I’m not naturally disciplined, so I need structure. My breakfast today was a spinach and egg skillet. I don’t want to eat that,’ he confessed to Men’s Health UK.
‘But there’s something I do want, and that is to be in shape and have great shows. So that’s what I eat.’
The award-winning musician began his transformation in 2019 ahead of headlining Glastonbury.
Prior to the Worthy Farm festival, Stormzy had high expectations of himself to create a ‘flipping iconic, legendary set’, describing Glasto as ‘a whole new beast’ to other headline events.
At the time, though, he would find himself on stage feeling as though he had ‘nothing left in the tank’.
He admits he ‘didn’t grow up super fit’ and describes himself as ‘bog standard’ (never, Stormzy, never!)
So, having kickstarted his new exercise program and giving his diet a 180, the star is striving to reach Beyoncé’s stamina level.
‘There’s a part in Beychella where she talks about her diet, and I was thinking, “Yeah, now I want a nutritionist. I want to be someone who is able to deliver a live set for 90 minutes with full energy and not stutter on my vocal, not be out of breath, not need to take a break, just be almost like a superhuman on stage, the same as I’ve seen Beyoncé”.’
Never fear, though, as the cover star won’t be appearing on Gladiators anytime soon – he’s still very much in the studio.
Asked what his main goals are right now, the Big For Your Boots vocalist declared that he wants to ‘make a great album’.
It’s been a turbulent year for Stormzy, to say the least.
The rapper, real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., began 2024 all loved up after rekindling his romance with Maya Jama last summer.
Alas, the beloved couple called it quits in July after giving things a second try, four years after first breaking up.
In a shock statement at the time, the pair explained that their relationship simply ‘didn’t work’.
In a message, they told their millions of fans that they had been ‘laughing’ while drafting the breakup announcement, as they ‘never, ever in a million years’ thought they’d be the people to do so.
But, for the ‘sake of clarity’, they wanted to let the world know: ‘We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart.
‘We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.’
Insisting that they ‘still think the world of each other’, they added: ‘We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s okay.’
Following their split, Stormzy sparked fresh romance rumours in October when he was spotted kissing US singer Victoria Monet.
Stormzy fronts and guest edits the January/February issue of Men’s Health UK, on sale from December 20.
