Strictly Come Dancing star Carlos Gu has shared his feelings on not getting a dance partner on the show this year.

The professional dancer has admitted he is looking on the bright side about not getting paired with a celebrity for the competition this year, despite the fact he thought he would be. Carlos was previously paired with EastEnders star Molly Rainford and Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon before taking a step back this year.

He said: “I was so lucky to be given two incredible partners, Molly and Angela. We had a great, time, we had an amazing time. I'm so proud of both of them. So for the third year, I was expecting that again, [I was like] ‘Okay, I'm ready, I’m ready to give more'."

Talking to Aimee Fuller on her The Monday Mile podcast Carlos admitted the plus side to not getting a partner is he has more free time to focus on other things. He said: “I'm still a part of the shows. I'm still doing the music act. I'm still doing some of the group numbers.

"If you are not in the competition, you have more free time, I think I'm just using my time wisely. We're going to go husband hunting, you know, we're going to improve our skills and learning. When the season starts, when you're busy, your mind is literally on fire and twirling. You never really have the opportunity to really relax.

“I think I really need that this year. I think this is a good opportunity for me to be doing that, because through that I can learn something about myself that I didn't know before." Carlos also admitted that he doesn't feel slighted by the move as it isn't necessarily personal and can be a more strategic decision.

He continued to Amy: “Sometimes the decision is made [and it’s] not necessarily personal. It’s just because of the different perspectives, the different teams. Because we all want the show to look great. We all want this company, this production to look good. So, nothing is really personal. I think as long as you start to understand that, some of the decisions aren’t personal to you.”

Carlos also discussed his tour alongside fellow Strictly professional Amy Dowden as he confirmed the pair will hit the road in a "huge project we’ve created between the two of us called Reborn." Carlos described the reason behind the name admitting he feels like "moving to the UK, accepting the new jobs and doing completely new stuff and meeting new people in my life, I feel like I landed at home, I feel like I’ve been reborn."

He also described good friend Amy's journey battling breast cancer as another example of rebirth adding: “Amy’s the perfect example of being reborn, having Crohn’s disease, she battled so long and for so many years, and last year she had cancer, and she never gave up. She's a great example for everybody."
