Swedish DJ and record producer Alesso has revealed he's been suffering from Tinnitus in recent months, which has affected his ability to perform on stage.

Tinnitus causes ringing in the ears and can be quite painful and Alesso, 33, said he's been forced to cancel some gigs for the sake of his health.

In a video update shared with fans, the DJ said it was his "sign to slow down" and "prioritise his health".

He said in his message to fans that he's been "cancelling shows" and has barely posted amid his battle.

"I wanted to be a little bit transparent... Basically, two months ago, I woke up with the loudest ringing in my ears, talking about 10 out of 10," he explained.

"I was in complete shock ... it was so intense. I've had tinnitus a little bit in the past but nothing like this and I know it's super common in the music industry ... but the good news is I'm getting better."

He added that he might be stepping back from performing too much but will be prioritising his health.

"I took this as a sign to slow down, to prioritise my health and be more careful," he said.

"I will be doing shows, but maybe not as many.

"I just wish everyone the healthiest year, I want everyone to be careful, wear ear protection, remember we're only human and thank you to everyone reaching out."
