"The fires in California have devastated so many families, and it's been heartbreaking to see these stories unfold," Swift wrote. "So much suffering, loss, and destruction. As so many people embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organizations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild."

Why It Matters

The Los Angeles wildfires have scorched over 40,000 acres, destroyed more than 12,000 homes and businesses, and claimed 25 lives since igniting earlier this month. Thousands remain displaced as firefighters work to contain the blazes, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, which were at 22 percent and 55 percent containment, respectively, as of Thursday, according to Cal Fire.

Swift's donation comes at a crucial time, as the cost of damages in Los Angeles is estimated to exceed $250 billion. Relief organizations are providing food, shelter, and resources to those impacted, with many in dire need of assistance.

What to Know

Swift's Instagram story highlighted 10 groups she personally supported, including 211 LA, Direct Relief, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

She encouraged her fans to contribute as well, writing, "If you feel compelled or able to donate, please do."

The other organizations on her list include:

  • California Community Foundation Fund
  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles
  • Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation
  • Los Angeles Unified School District Education Foundation Emergency Relief Fund
  • Pasadena Educational Foundation Eaton Fire Response Fund
  • MusiCares
  • Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Swift's donations follow fellow superstar Beyoncé's contributions to those impacted by the wildfires. The BeyGood Foundation recently contributed $2.5 million to families in Altadena and Pasadena, while Jamie Lee Curtis pledged $1 million to aid affected residents.
