Christian Louboutin revealed the secret behind Taylor Swift’s “unslippable” Eras Tour shoes to InStyle‘s Sally Holmes in his latest exclusive. Louboutin, who has worked with Swift for more than a decade, previously on her 2018 Reputation Tour, claimed the task in front of him was more stressful this time.
Louboutin said the Grammy winner’s team worked with him to create new pairs for each of the nearly two-year-long tour, especially considering she released her album “Tortured Poets Department” halfway through it. Not only that, the designer admitted that her glamorous outfits were “instrumental” in drawing inspiration for her footwear.
Christian Louboutin reveals secret behind Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour heels
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour heels were unslippable because of the “signature red rubber sole,” revealed Christian Louboutin. He noted that while designing Swift and her numerous backup dancers’ footwear, they had to consider the weather’s unpredictability and ensure comfort and support. Hence, they crafted each pair with this red rubber that “makes it easy to dance.”
The luxury footwear designer further shared that they commonly include “this feature for musicians” on tour to assist them in withstanding multiple performances. He then explained that they make the footwear to allow “quick changes” for performers. In this case, they also “incorporated [a] sturdy block heel and also flats” for comfort throughout the show. Their main focus was on incorporating practical elements while creating a bevy of shoes.
Christian Louboutin called his time working with Taylor Swift during her phenomenal and record-breaking Eras Tour an “emotional” journey. He also confessed that the singer and her stylist, Joseph Cassell “drew inspiration for her looks through the years. Ultimately, the end result of Swift’s looks was a collection made of “both [existing forms] that we had and an entirely new design, all with a big shine.”
On top of that, Louboutin opined that Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” shoes are his “favorite,” calling the mid-tour launch of the album her “big moment.” He also remarked that collaborating with the artist for her continent-spanning Eras Tour “felt natural” given their past partnership.
