Times Radio host Aasmah Mir, 53, has waded into the debate about MasterChef star Gregg Wallace, 60.

Aasmah came in 14th on Celebrity MasterChef back in 2017, and seemingly addressed the allegations of Gregg making “sexual comments” on set in two posts on Twitter. In her first post on X, Aasmah shared a photo of herself from her time on the competition show, with the picture showing her smiling at the camera while wearing the iconic Masterchef apron. “Always keep your receipts,” she wrote alongside the shot.

The broadcaster soon followed up to the first post, and simply retweeted a breaking news post about Gregg stepping down from MasterChef. In the comment section, some fans were quick to guess that Aasmah was subtly addressing the major MasterChef announcement.

“Wondering if this is a hint towards a story in the news today?,” one person asked, while another questioned, “You’ve told the story on the radio a few times about some comments someone at the BBC made to you. Is this related?”

Gregg was announced to be stepping away from MasterChef earlier today, due to allegations of past misconduct.

The show’s production agency, Banjay UK, said in their official statement: “This week the BBC received complaints from individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows. Whilst these complainants have not raised the allegations directly with our show producers or parent company Banijay UK, we feel that it is appropriate to conduct an immediate, external review to fully and impartially investigate.”

The agency added: “While this review is underway, Gregg Wallace will be stepping away from his role on MasterChef and is committed to fully cooperating throughout the process.”

Newsnight host Kirsty Wark is among 13 people who have accused the MasterChef presenter of making inappropriate sexual comments, BBC News reported. Kirsty appeared on the BBC cooking show in 2011 and has claimed that Wallace told “jokes of a sexualised nature" on two occasions during filming.

The wife of Gregg’s co-judge, John Torode, 59, also claimed that Gregg made "rude jokes" on set. Lisa Faulkner, 52, appeared on Celebrity Masterchef in 2020, and married John in 2019.

Of her time on the show, Lisa said: "Gregg was telling - I’m probably not allowed to say this. Gregg just told rude joke after rude joke to the crew.

“You’re just sitting there and if you’re on the front bench just chopping away thinking, ‘I’ve got ten minutes left,’ and he’s saying, ‘So this girl walked into a bar…’ And I’m going, ‘Please I don’t want to hear this joke.’”

Last month, amid growing claims that Gregg made inappropriate comments on the show, the judge himself took to social media to address the allegations.

"With reference to what's in the newspapers, these allegations were investigated by the BBC six years ago - and my comments were found to be not sexual. I repeat not sexual. Thank you for your time,” he said on Instagram.
