Tears Over Pet Grieving Family's Dog That Passed Suddenly: 'Struggling'

The unfortunate and difficult part of owning a pet is the day you have to say goodbye and send it over the rainbow bridge. The grieving process hits everyone differently, and, believe it or not, other pets can feel the loss of their furry friends.

One family recently lost their dog unexpectedly and suddenly. The emptiness in the house could be felt by everyone, but especially their other canine. The family has noticed him acting differently, which has led them to believe he's been "struggling" without his sibling.

A December 16 TikTok video posted to the account @beccabcreations explains how this dog is normally a "quiet boy." However, since the passing of the 13-year-old canine, he's been vocal.

In the clip, he's whining and crying with the owner, who tried comforting him with a hug. But the heartbreaking cries continued as the video showed him in another part of the home. He is visibly shaking too, just one of the many signs that dogs are grieving.

Newsweek reached out to @beccabcreations via TikTok for additional information.

The American Kennel Club has shared other signs that a canine is grieving another dog. They include a lack of appetite, lethargic behavior, sleeping more than usual, unusually aggressive or destructive behavior, searching for the dog's companion or becoming clingy with the owner.

A separate video showed that the owners let the dog see his sibling after she had passed. Many pet parents opt for this because it might help the animals understand what happened. Hopefully, it will help them accept that their friend won't be returning home.

So the dog got to see his deceased best friend, or, as the owner put it, his "security blanket." It may have helped, but because the grieving process is never linear, the dog was still struggling with his new normal a week later.

A dog's comfort should always be prioritized during this difficult time, Newsweek previously reported. It's important to stick to the dog's routine as much as possible because that provides it with stability in an otherwise disruptive time.

Owners should also set aside time each day to give the dog extra love and attention, which can be healing for both.

The clip had over 1.7 million views as of Thursday. TikTok viewers were brought to tears since the dog was clearly grieving.

"He misses his buddy. They have feelings just like us," wrote one viewer.

Another said: "Ugh I just wanna rub this poor baby. No one ever teaches you how to say goodbye as a human or animal uhh my heartstrings."

A third said: "I'm actually in tears. I hate this."
