Instant messaging platform Telegram has announced a new update for Mini Apps. With the rollout of Mini Apps 2.0, users can now play full-screen in both landscape and portrait modes. The update also brings other features like subscription plans, home screen shortcuts, sending gifts, sharing media, creating documents, access to geolocation, a motion tracker, setting emoji statues,— and more.
As per the latest Telegram update mini apps are now allowed to occupy the whole screen in either portrait or landscape orientation. They may support various game genres with more extensive movements and user interfaces.
Additionally, Mini Apps on Telegram can use information about your device’s motion to offer unique controls to games or create immersive VR experiences. Developers can lock the screen orientation to prevent needless rotation if their app leverages device motion for controls.

Telegram users are also now allowed to create direct shortcuts to certain mini apps on their device’s home screen, allowing them to access their favourite games and services with a single press.
Developers can now share locations with mini-apps, enabling them to create location-based games with points of interest or interactive maps for events. The default setting disables location data access, requiring users to grant specific permissions for each mini-app they wish to share this data with.
On Telegram Apps may now utilise their stars to offer you gifts as a way to honour accomplishments. A privacy setting has also been added that lets you control who can send you gifts that will appear on your profile.
Telegram Premium users can now set emoji statuses from mini apps, allowing others to see their current status in a game or taxi. Mini apps can incorporate APIs from other services, allowing users to easily change their emoji status while listening to music, reading a book, or watching a movie. These applications can also provide status updates when at work or away from the office. Developers may also develop bespoke emoji packs for status settings, which increases the virality of mini-apps.
You may now share media straight from mini-applications, including referral codes, custom memes, and more, in any conversation. Mini apps can also generate media for you to share on your stories.

Mini apps can generate AI-generated documents and files for download, and developers can offer subscriptions using Telegram Stars, monetising their efforts with multiple tiers of content and features. As per the company, Telegram Stars earned through digital items and subscriptions may be used to enhance the app’s message limitations or to collect rewards.
Developers may now earn rewards from Telegram Ads in bots and mini-applications.
Developers may further customise the loading screen of their mini app in @BotFather by adding their own icon and specified colours that will be displayed before the app begins to load.
Mini apps may now access device hardware information, like processing power and memory capacity, in order to optimise visuals and improve performance. Developers can now track when their app is minimised and restored, as well as manage transitions effectively. Improvements include making it easier for mini-apps to access profile pictures and supporting third-party validation of mini-app data. Early versions of these functionalities are accessible in apps like @playdeckbot, @tverse, and @major. Developers may also test out early versions of the new functionality.
