Tencent Subsidiary Reveals Light of Motiram, Suspiciously Looking Like Horizon Zero Dawn and Palworld

It's common to see video game companies take ideas from their contemporaries, but sometimes such inspirations are closer to being an imitation rather than a remix. Tencent Games' subsidiary Polaris Quest has announced Light of Motiram, an open-world survival crafting game that looks suspiciously close to PlayStation's Horizon Zero Dawn and Pocketpair's Palworld.

The game was revealed out of nowhere (spotted by Gematsu) with a store page on Steam and Epic Games ready for you to wishlist it. In it, players inhabit a post-apocalyptic world where humans live alongside giant mechanical beasts. The game's official description reads:

"In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals."

According to teaser images posted by the developer, the game is set in 2068, when humanity found the "remnants of the Cycle Experiment." If we had to guess, it's probably not far off from the Faro Plague in the Horizon games, which gave rise to the robotic dinosaurs the franchise is known for.

Gameplay clips on its store page look eerily similar to other major games like Palworld, Horizon, and even Monster Hunter with its combat. There's even a small hovering robot, not unlike Ghost in Destiny 2, that follows the player around. It will feature a "physics-based" base building mechanic, while players can coordinate with other mechanimals to give themselves a boost.

The names of said mechanimals are derived from Hindu deities like Hanuman, Agni, and Yama. There will be "over 100 customizable mechanimals" in the game that you can tame. Like Palworld, the game will feature survival-crafting elements and be playable in co-op, with "up to 10 players" in a session.

Light of Motiram is being developed for PC and will be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
