No, this isn't NASA's latest project. The "airspace" haircut is the latest style to sweep red carpets, runway shows, and (quite possibly) your next salon visit. Leaning heavily on the front half of its name, this look is all about lending the hair a light, airy texture.
"'Airspace' celebrates this idea of negative space," celebrity hairstylist Sunnie Brook, who coined the term, tells PS. "This cut is about removing weight to create movement with no steps and giving the hair an airy look and feel. Or it can be a juxtaposition in the hair shape. Think: extreme side parts, seamless layers, and for the brave ones, cutouts or undercuts on shorter haircuts."
There are options for the cut on the more bold end of the spectrum, and also iterations that are a bit more simplistic. Keep scrolling to learn everything to know about the airspace haircut.

Who Can Get the Airspace Haircut?
That's the thing: this look works no matter your individual hair type and texture, although there are a few things to keep in mind.
"If you have finer hair and want to make a statement, going for a cutout section could give you more volume to the overall shape of your haircut," Brook says, adding that medium-to-thick textures will benefit from the airy, layered look if you want something low maintenance. "If you have coarse, straight hair, ask your hairdresser about the option of using a razor or point cutting to create seamless layers versus using texturizing scissors. This option can give your hair a more seamless transition in the interior layers."
Because it's meant to remove any dead weight from the hair, styling it at home is relatively easy. This trending cut is perfect for any season, and it's inspired by the '90s, with a sheen, satin finish. "To style, reach for hydrating and smoothing products to get that satin sheen," Brook says.
