‘The Daily Show’ Clip: Jordan Klepper Crashes Trump’s Inauguration Tonight on Comedy Central

4 hours ago 7

Even against the backdrop of one of the worst Januarys in recent memory, you can’t keep our favorite correspondent at “The Daily Show” down. Jordan Klepper is back on the road for Comedy Central tonight at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT — covering President Donald Trump‘s inauguration with man-on-the-street interviews that reveal a drastically changed Washington, D.C.

IndieWire can share an exclusive clip from the upcoming episode, which sees Klepper — a correspondent for “The Daily Show” since 2014 — speak to MAGA supporters filling the city’s streets on Inauguration Day about Trump’s so-called Golden Age of America, as well as crypto currency, artificial intelligence, nationalist governments, renaming the Gulf of Mexico, presidential pardons, and more. The interviews came from outside the Capitol building, where the 47th president moved his swearing-in festivities inside due to frigid temperatures and away from the promise of record-breaking crowds.

“Maybe the media that I’m following is not showing these,” said one baffled attendee when challenged by Klepper with a photograph showing a January 6 rioter shooting a gun in front of the capital.

“None of them were armed,” said another man.
“Well, some of them were armed,” Klepper retorted.

The segment also includes an outpouring of enthusiasm for the MAGA garbage truck (an attraction Trump drives around for a reason you can research on your own time), and Klepper making a point about who Trump prioritized when it came to assembling his allies on the dais.

“Don’t you think it’s kind of the perfect metaphor?” asked Klepper. “He’s inside hanging out with the billionaires and all of his supporters are outside in the cold.”

Reassured by one supporter that the MAGA base was “prepared to be left out in the cold,” Klepper questioned why Trump’s fans wouldn’t simply break into the Capitol to ensure themselves front-row seats to the history they helped make happen. One woman remarked to Klepper that breaking a window on the centuries-old building might “hurt her hand,” but failed to explain why the man with her was dressed as… Spider-Man. With great power comes great responsibility, I guess. Good luck out there, Jordan.

The clip will air on tonight’s episode of “The Daily Show” at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. Watch the segment ahead of time below:
