Helen Mirren is "sad" that Kurt Cobain isn't alive to experience the world's newest inventions, and the internet has follow-up questions.
In a London Standard article, discussing his interview with Helen on the Brave New World Podcast, Evgeny Lebedev recalled a conversation where Helen apparently mentioned how she felt about the band, Nirvana's founding member and lead vocalist not being able to enjoy modern "magical" technology.
"I always say, it's so sad that Kurt Cobain died when he did, because he never saw GPS," Helen said. "It's the most wonderful thing, my little blue spot walking down the street. I just find it completely magical and unbelievable."
Kurt died by suicide in 1994 at age 27.
For context, Helen was discussing her experience with aging and technology with Evgeny, which is seemingly relatable to her comment. "I am older," Helen told Evgeny. "I'm sure I'll go all pear-shaped soon. But I'm not interested in being young. I'm interested in being exactly who I am."
Even with a little context, it still felt out of left field, and the internet couldn't help but ask more questions or crack jokes at her random but relatable logic.
Other people realized they'd never be able to obtain Helen Mirren's level of compassion.
I thought I was a person with a lot of empathy, but I understand now that I have a lot of work to do.

Many people took it as an opportunity to make silly but strangely justifiable assertions about other famous celebrities who died and will never be able to experience modern technology.
