The emergency situation in California, with devastating wildfires in parts of Los Angeles that prompted the mandatory evacuation of around 180,000 people and a latent threat to urban areas, prompted precautionary measures with some sporting events postponed and the cancellation of several premieres.
Some studios announced the cancellation of the premieres of several films scheduled for this week, such as Amazon MGM's 'Unstoppable', starring Jennifer Lopez, as well as Paramount Pictures' biopic of British singer Robbie Williams, 'Better Man', and Universal Studios''Wolfman'
The cancellation of 'Unstoppable' came on Tuesday, when the luxurious area of Pacific Palisades suffered the ravages of the fire and its residents were evacuated and the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, declared a state of emergency.
Amazon MGM Studios announced in a statement the cancellation of the premiere of the film 'Unstoppable', which would take place at the DGA Theater.
"While we were very excited to celebrate this amazing and inspiring film with you, safety is our top priority. We encourage you to watch 'Unstoppable' on Prime Video, which will be available worldwide on January 16. Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe," the company said in the statement.
Which celebrities have been affected by the California fire?
But the main damage is in the entertainment world, as many artists saw their properties damaged. Among them are people such as Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore and James Woods.
"Last minute Malibu evacuation," actor Mark Hamill wrote on Instagram on Tuesday night. "Small fires on either side of the road as we approached (Pacific Coast Highway)."
The flames have affected the residential neighborhood of Pacific Palisades in the Santa Monica mountains and, because of the Santa Ana winds, a common phenomenon at this time of year in Southern California, it spread so well to the iconic beach of Malibu.
In this area, it is known that many celebrities have their holiday homes or main residences, due to its natural spaces and exclusivity.
