For centuries, couples have been searching for the secret to a happy marriage, and celebrities are no exception. Some A-listers have discovered unique solutions that have worked for them and their spouses, and they haven't hesitated to share their insights with the world.
Here are a few of the unorthodox secrets that some celebs have claimed helped their marriages.
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody have been married for around 10 years, and the secret to their success as a couple can partially be attributed to having separate bathrooms.
Brody was interviewed on the red carpet of the 2025 Golden Globes, where he admitted, "We have de facto separate toilets, I go in the office — it's nice." He later added, "Get one layer farther away from the kids. One layer more deep with privacy."
Meester and Brody have been married since 2014 and share daughter Arlo, 9, and a 4-year-old son whose name has not been revealed.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
There are two aspects of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's marriage that they have admitted make a big difference after 18 years together, and they both involve the bathroom. Kidman opened up about their special setup during an interview with W Magazine, where she told the outlet, "We have a double shower, the double-headed shower: key to a successful marriage."
The Oscar-winning star also shared that the two have "separate commodes," which also helps their marriage. Kidman and Urban tied the knot in 2006 and have since welcomed two children, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Rachael Ray and John Cusimano
Rachael Ray and her husband, John Cusimano, have been known to have an unorthodox relationship, but there's one thing they do outside of the norm that has helped them stay together after almost 20 years.
During an episode of her I'll Sleep When I'm Dead podcast, Ray admitted that she and her husband "largely stay in separate corners" of their home when they need a break from each other. Ray and Cusimano met in 2001 and were married in 2005. They don't share any children.
Barbara Corcoran and Bill Higgins
Barbara Corcoran has been vocal about the key component to the success of her 35-year marriage to Bill Higgins: the fact that they sleep in separate bedrooms.
"I've had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years. I have to invite him in — he invites me in occasionally," the Shark Tank judge admitted during an appearance on the Today Show in 2024. She also added, "I think there's something to be said about your own private space. I lead a very busy life. I have a huge family that I'm always entertaining. I have very sincere, active friends, and so what I need more than anything else is a respite, and my husband is not relaxing."
Corcoran and Higgins met in 1981 and tied the knot in 1988. The couple shares two children: their son Tom, 29, and an adopted daughter, Kate, 19.
