"They Came In A Little Worried" – Angelina Jolie Reflects On Working With Her Sons On "Maria"

21 hours ago 1

Angelina Jolie has always been one to get her children involved in her work – whether it’s on-screen or behind-the-scenes – and her latest project, Maria, is no different.

The biopic tells the tragic yet beautiful story of the mysterious Maria Callas; one of the greatest opera singers of all time.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Angelina revealed just how emotionally and physically challenging the role was, calling it “exposing.”

She revealed that two of her sons worked alongside her, and though they’ve worked with her on many other films, they saw a different side to her as she embodied Maria.

“They’ve seen me do many things and they know I’m an artist, but I realised it was the first time I had a very emotional scene.” She said.

Angelina’s heartfelt performance had her sons a little bit worried, and she learned that the role showed them aspects of herself they’d not seen before.

“I realised that there are things you don’t show your children, there’s a part of your pain and vulnerability that you don’t let all out in front of your children.”

Reflecting on the experience, Angelina said that the process was a different way of being open, and taught her sons a valuable lesson: “Your mother’s vulnerable. She has pain and sadness, but she still is okay, and it’s going to be okay."
