Tori Spelling: Staying With Ex Dean 'Did a Disservice' to Kids

2 weeks ago 9

Tori Spelling made a startling revelation regarding her marriage to estranged husband Dean McDermott.

On a recent episode of her misSPELLING podcast, the actress admitted that staying in her rocky marriage to McDermott may have had a negative impact on their kids.

The 51-year-old said she wanted her kids to have "their parents together" — like her parents Candy and Aaron Spelling, who were together for 25 years — and that's what kept her "from ultimately making what was outwardly a better decision for them.”

"I always thought as bad as things might be between my partner and myself, it’s better to have their dad in the house than in a different residence. I think that kept me in the relationship far too long. It ultimately, I feel, did a disservice to my kids," she told psychologist Dr. Hillary Goldsher.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum shares five kids with McDermott: Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, Finn, 12, and Beau, 7.

The author, who filed for divorce in March after 18 years of marriage, revealed that near the end of her marriage, she and the Canadian actor “did things as a family for the kids” but slept in separate rooms.

Spelling revealed McDermott has been sober for "over a year now," and that she and their kids are "very proud of him."

"But before that, it was rough for them to see, and it was very disjointing. I feel like I didn’t separate the families — in household terms only — sooner, but of course we can’t go back, so we’re dealing with it now. But it’s hard not to have their dad in the house," she added.
