Traitors star reveals cast 'went mad' after finding out hidden relationship on show

EXCLUSIVE: The Traitors is back on screens and gripped BBC viewers have been eager to know whether not there has been a secret bond between some of the contestants

The Traitors viewers have had their eyes peeled trying to suss out if there is a secret relationship between contestants in this series.

But what happens when a hidden bond between players is revealed? Everything gets a bit "mad", according to series one winner Meryl Williams who has been working with Betway.

In the 2023 series it was revealed partway into the show that Alex and Tom were dating before they went on the show, which floored some of the cast. When asked if any drama in the game seeped into morale between the group off-camera, Meryl answered: "Obviously other than the drama with Matt who fancied Alex, but she was in there with her boyfriend, Tom. So after that came out everything went a bit mad."

There has also been plenty of fan theories this year, from Leanne and Leon being in a relationship, Frankie and Freddie being mother and son, and Dan and Joe knowing each other from home. However, nothing has been proved as of yet - and Meryl seems to think it won't.

Meryl explained: "I’m not going to lie, I don't think that there are any secret relationships or friendships. I think sometimes it’s just a lot of speculation.

"In my series, my mum joined a Facegroup group, and they were talking about all of these crazy theories! My mum thought that it was ridiculous! It’s very open, like there’s no trickery, we have probably seen everything."

When asked about how she thinks the show will wrap up, she predicted: "I think the ending is going to be different from the previous series though. There is a new aspect of the ending. So I think this makes it even harder for the faithful to win."

The Traitors is filmed at Ardross Castle, a 19th century castle in Scottish, north of Inverness. So some viewers have been wondering if it was haunted or not.

Meryl set the record straight by saying: "No, luckily I didn’t see or hear anything that could have meant that the castle was haunted. I think if I did then I would have struggled to stay there!

"I would have been so scared. No one else said anything either thank goodness. Obviously, it’s an old castle so there were a few noises and creaking of the floorboards but nothing else."
