Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is stepping up security at his $6 million home following a targeted robbery that left him without over $100,000 in valuables, including cherished NFL memorabilia. The burglary, which also affected his teammate Patrick Mahomes, has been linked to a "transnational crime ring".
The heist at Kelce's Leawood, Kansas, mansion occurred last month, with thieves reportedly spending no more than 15 minutes in the property. Among the stolen items were Kelce's first Super Bowl jersey, designer clothing, jewelry and $20,000 in cash.
A targeted operation
The burglars, who reportedly pose as delivery workers or joggers to scout their targets, struck the homes of Kelce and Mahomes within hours of each other. Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, also lost jewelry and designer bags in the raid.
One of Kelce's luxury watches was later recovered over 1,400 miles away in Providence, Rhode Island, showing the far-reaching nature of the crime network.
The FBI is now involved in the investigation, with professional athletes across the country being warned to remain vigilant.
A source close to Kelce revealed the tight end is "very upset" about the break-in and is taking immediate steps to prevent future incidents.
"Travis is going to set a new alarm system not to be a target of a possible burglary as he is doing some work in the house and will have more of Taylor's stuff in there, too," the insider confirmed.
Kelce is particularly devastated over the loss of his first Super Bowl jersey, worn during the Chiefs' 2020 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
"That first Super Bowl shirt is essential from him," added the insider.
The timing of the robbery, which occurred just before the Chiefs played the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, suggests the burglars specifically targeted the homes of athletes during games.
