Triller Launches App to Download Your TikTok Clips

With the deadline for a U.S. TikTok sell-off closing in, competitor platform Triller is taking the opportunity to boost its own data banks, by providing an option that enables TikTok users to back up their TikTok content in the app.

As reported by TechCrunch, now, at SaveMyTikToks.com, you can connect your TikTok account to a Triller profile, which then enables you to download your TikTok clips to the app. That’ll ensure that they remain accessible, even if TikTok ends up getting removed from the U.S.

Which could be just days away, with TikTok currently scheduled to be removed from U.S. app stores on January 19th, as per the Senate-approved enforced sell-off bill.

There is still hope that TikTok could be saved, with incoming President Donald Trump appealing to extend the deadline, so that he might be able to negotiate an alternative arrangement, following his inauguration (on January 20th), while billionaire businessman Frank McCourt has also reportedly submitted a proposal to buy the platform from China’s ByteDance.

It’s unclear whether either of these will succeed, with the Supreme Court to decide in Trump’s case, and the Chinese Government still seemingly committed to opposing any sale of the app, as a stand against what it sees as U.S. overreach.

China has also made it clear that it will not allow the sale of TikTok’s almighty feed algorithm either way, which is the engine that drives the success of the app. So even if it is sold to a U.S. company, it could end up being a shell of the TikTok we currently know.

Which means that TikTok’s only real hope in the U.S. is Trump, who may not have the power to overturn or renegotiate the bill in time. Well, Trump or the Supreme Court siding with TikTok in its opposition to the bill. Which seems unlikely.

That said, I would also expect that if TikTok is banned, the company will look to maintain U.S. user profiles and data on its U.S. servers, for a period of time at least, as it looks to reverse the decision, and make the platform available to Americans once again.

In other words, you may not need a backup tool, as such, because TikTok will likely keep your content in the app, with a view to a future return. And that could happen within months, depending on how Trump looks to tackle the situation, so it might not be essential to download and save your content.

But maybe, Triller’s option could be handy, and could be another way to give yourself some extra assurance and peace of mind.

TikTok hasn’t provided any guidance on downloading your content as yet, as it continues to fight the sell-off bill.
