Trinity Rodman has made it clear that an apology may not be enough to change the estranged relationship between her and her father, Dennis Rodman.
Recently, the NBA legend issued a public apology to the Olympic soccer player regarding his absence from her life—which Trinity has dubbed “a joke.”
On Dec. 18, the 22-year-old appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she spoke on their fractured relationship. “He’s a person. He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else,” Trinity said. The day after the interview aired, the 63-year-old responded with a lengthy Instagram apology.
“Sorry I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still Try and Never will Stop,” he expressed. “I will keep Trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time.”
Trinity, however, dismissed the apology as insincere. She took to Instagram Stories, writing, “A joke. The response alone. And the attention. Wiping my hands with it and I’m done. Thank you.”
In her Call Her Daddy interview, Trinity shared painful memories of her father’s absence and his struggles with substance abuse—which she claimed were constant during her childhood. “He’s an alcoholic. That’s something that I don’t want to say, but I’m just like, f**k it. It’s just the truth,” she revealed.
She also recalled how their financial situation drastically changed after her parents’ divorce, which was filed in 2004 but finalized in 2012. “Before the divorce happened, my dad was actually helping money-wise,” she explained. “When the divorce happened, it was just like, ‘F**k you guys.’ … We’re getting enough money to pay rent, barely.”
Despite her frustration, Trinity admitted that she still answers her father’s calls, but only for her own peace of mind. “I want to know that I did that. Or if he needed to hear my voice before anything happens,” she said. “That’s why I answer the phone, not for me.”
