The unlikely trio shared snaps together at Hugh's River Cottage where his TV series is set.

Posting a video montage on Instagram, Hugh wrote: "Had a great time last weekend sharing a slice of @rivercottagehq life with @jakegyllenhaal and @gaardsars who came down to see us.

"I have to say they are pretty dab hands in the kitchen, especially when it comes to knocking out homemade pasta.

"Nettle pasta is our favourite of course. Normally that’s a spring thing, when the nettles are young and tender.

"But since the nettle patch was strimmed a few weeks ago, we have a lovely patch of fresh young autumn nettles, perfect for this (and other) recipes.

"We did this pretty much as per my recipe in River Cottage Good Comfort, which I’ll post next. You can also use spinach, chard, or kale instead of the nettles.

"As you can see here, excellent kneading and rolling by JG and PS. And a pretty decent mushroom sauce by HFW, even if I say so myself…"

Hugh's followers were taken aback by the post, with one commentating: "The collaboration we weren't expecting but now somehow need."

Another added: "One of my favourite actors, how lucky."

Hugh moved into into River Cottage, a former game-keeper's lodge in the grounds of Slape Manor in Dorset, back in 1997.

The lodge became the setting for three Channel 4 series: Escape to River Cottage, Return to River Cottage, and River Cottage Forever, all directed by Garry John Hughes.
