Warriors' Draymond Green Calls Out Thunder For Their Post-Game Ritual

2 months ago 3

The Golden State Warriors have been the talk of the NBA over the past decade due to their dominance on the court. But over the last couple of seasons, they have fallen short of their championship goals.

With their core group getting older, the rest of the NBA has been able to catch up to them. Golden State still has All-Star point guard Steph Curry — who's currently hurt — and former four-time All-Star forward Draymond Green leading the charge, giving the Warriors some relevance on the floor.

Green has continued to be the outspoken player that he always has been and it has bled over into podcasting. He has never been shy about speaking his opinions and has now set his sights on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He took aim at the Thunder and their unique post-game ritual. Oklahoma City tends to gather multiple players in their post-game interviews. Green doesn't believe it relates to the "seriousness" needed to win.

"The one thing I see about the OKC team that's alarming to me is their postgame. Seven guys in the interview," Green said on his podcast "The Draymond Green Show." "There's a certain seriousness it takes to win in this league. And there's a certain fear you have to instill in teams in order to win. I just don't know if they're instilling that fear in teams with all the bromance and stuff after the game."

Draymond Green talked about the Thunder in his latest podcast episode. Said he's not a fan of the postgame interview tradition:

The Warriors forward has won four NBA titles alongside Curry, so he understands what it takes to climb the mountaintop. But his criticism of Thunder is a little odd.

Despite them not having won the title, Oklahoma City is one of the better teams in the NBA. They were the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference a season ago, they're currently the No. 1 seed again with an undefeated 4-0 record, and they should be good for a long time.

Green also took a slight shot at Thunder All-NBA point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, saying that he isn't quite a superstar yet.

"Shai is on the verge of becoming a superstar," Green said of the man who finished second in MVP voting last year. "I don't quite personally think he's a superstar yet. Because superstar to me is worldwide. Everybody [knows] you. To me, there's only a few superstars in the NBA. But Shai has superstar-level talent. However, just because you have superstar-level talent doesn't always make you a superstar."

"For Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to take that next step, there are certain things a superstar does. Like I said, the interview. Like Shai, people want to hear what you got to say! They want to hear you speak. They want to hear your thoughts. They don't want to hear when 7 guys in the back are, 'Roar! roar! roar!' They don't want to hear that."

More from Draymond Green from his podcast about the Thunder:

Many believed that Gilgeous-Alexander should have won the MVP honor over Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic last season. While Green may not agree, Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the top players in the NBA today.

No matter what he thinks, when the Warriors and Thunder meet for the first time this season, we should all expect some fireworks to happen. The first matchup is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Oklahoma City.
