After decades on the big and small screen, Drew Barrymore has taken a step away from acting.
She has recently opened up about her decision to do so and where her priorities currently lie.
In an interview for AARP The Magazine's February/March 2025 cover story, the actor turned TV host, 49, revealed that she wants to focus on parenthood.

Barrymore has two daughters Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, who she shares with her ex-husband Will Kopelman.
In the interview, she recalled being in her "early 40s, and not learning how to be [her] own healthy, independent individual [and] how to be the parent [she] dreams to be".

Now that she's nearing 50 and her kids are growing up, Barrymore wants to figure that all out and be there for her kids, something that isn't possible with the demands of an acting role.
"Being with other people doesn't help me figure that out right now," she said.
"And the long hours of doing films were hours I wouldn't have with my kids. I wasn't going to do that."

Barrymore's first role was in a commercial when she was only 11 months old. At age six, she was cast in Steven Spielberg's E.T.
She went on to star in several other successful works, including Never Been Kissed, 50 First Dates and Charlie's Angels.

As a child, Barrymore got caught up in the drug and alcohol scene which saw her admitted to Van Nuys Psychiatric Hospital at just 13.
"My mum put me there because she couldn't cope with me anymore but it was the best thing that happened to me," Barrymore told You magazine about the experience in 2021.
Not long after at the age of 14, she was legally emancipated from her mother.

Now as she nears 50, life looks very different for the star who has two children and is the host of her own talk show The Drew Barrymore Show.
And as her milestone birthday nears, Barrymore couldn't be more excited.
"It can't come soon enough. I feel like Frodo [in The Lord of the Rings]," she told AARP Magazine.
"I see that brass ring and I'm so excited! I have no issues with ageing – this is the happiest I've been in my life."
