A dog owner from Los Angeles shared a video of their Afghan Hound's growth in three months, and internet users can't cope with how much the pup has changed.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Friday under the username @dogstarrockstar, the fluffy pup can be seen riding his owner's car as a puppy, taking little space while he lies down on the chair as they drive him home.
The following clip shows the just pup three months later, when he has grown hugely, and has so much fur that users say he looks like a "bear."
As they grow, dogs go through a series of stages of development that shape their behavior, personality, and well-being.
An article by Georgia-based veterinarian Dr. Jess Kirk, published on Vet Explains says that the first stage is the "neonatal" phase, when the pups are still blind and deaf and are fully dependent on their mothers.
It's followed by the "transitional" stage, when the pups begin to open their eyes and their senses start to develop. Then there is the "socialization" phase where they start bonding with humans and other animals.
Next is the "juvenile" stage, which is a critical time for establishing healthy habits and routines. And finally there is the "adolescent" stage, when they start transitioning into young adults.
However, how long it takes for a dog to reach adulthood differs from breed to breed. According to Elle Vet Sciences smaller breeds reach maturity much earlier than bigger ones.
Small dog breeds, such as the Dachshund, Shih Tzu, and Yorkshire Terrier, usually reach full size within six to 12 months.
Medium breeds like the Border Collie, Bulldog, and Spaniel reach their adult size between 12 to 16 months.
For larger breeds like the German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, and Golden Retriever, continue to grow up to 18 to 24 months old.
For giant breeds like the Great Dane, Newfoundland, and Bullmastiff it can take over three years to reach full maturity.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 15.6 million views and 3.6 million likes on the platform.
One user commented saying: "Whose horse is that?" while another questioned: "I'm sorry but 3 MONTHS LATER?!"
User Cowboyboooots wrote: "He's giving very 'Bear in the Big Blue House' [children's TV show] vibes!!"
Another commenter added: "What have you been feeding him?! lol."
