Which films are the favorites to be nominated for the 2025 Oscar? Here are the predictions

We are very close to knowing the Oscar nominations, which will be announced on January 23, after being postponed due to the unfortunate fires in Los Angeles.

Because the awards season has officially begun with some, such as the Golden Globes, we already have an idea of which films will be strong contenders and have secure nominations.

Films that could receive a large number of Oscar nominations

• Conclave

Conclave, a film that is currently in theaters, is undoubtedly one that is sure to have several nominations, having been considered by the BAFTAs, Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes. It is likely to be nominated for best picture, as well as for the performance of Ralph Fiennes.

• The Brutalist

One of the films that is attracting the most attention is The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, which recently won "Best Drama Film" at the Golden Globes. It could be the big surprise, although many of the jurors said that they did not finish watching it because it is more than three hours long and others said that they did not understand it.

• Anora

One of the films that has received the most nominations this season is Anora, and the one who has surprised with her performance is Mikey Madison, whom we saw as the killer in "Scream 5", showing her great talent and being Demi Moore's biggest competitor to take the award home.

• The substance

Horror managed to sneak into the awards and deservedly so, as body horror has been one of the favorite subgenres and is little explored. Everything points to Demi Moore taking home the statuette for best actress, so Margaret Qualley is also expected to receive a nomination.

Another film starring Timothee Chalamet, who plays Bob Dylan in this biopic along with Elle Faning and has received nominations from the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG, although it is unlikely to win a statuette.

• Emilia Perez

Without a doubt, this is the most controversial film on the list, mainly in Mexico where the film has not been well received due to the delicate issues it deals with and the way in which they are addressed. Despite this, in other awards it has received important nominations such as best film, leading actress Karla Sofia Gascon, supporting actresses with Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana, so it could also receive a nomination for foreign film.

• Dune: Part Two

One of the highest-grossing films of 2024, arriving as a sequel and starring Timothee Chalamet, could receive nominations, mainly in the categories of special effects or costume and makeup.

• Wicked

The film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, who surprised with their great chemistry on and off screen, has captivated with its songs, will undoubtedly get the most important nominations but it will be difficult for them to take anything home.
