I don’t know about you, but I loved the early seasons of Southern Charm. I mainly tuned in to watch a single Craig Conover cause havoc on King Street. The Sewing Down South founder has come a long way since Season 1. He has started his own business and found what he thought was true love. Right before the New Year, Craig and Paige De Sorbo announced they had decided to go their separate ways. Even though viewers weren’t exactly surprised by the news, fans all of a sudden were excited for another season of Southern Charm, and a single, Craig, making a triumphant return.
The boys will happily welcome back single Craig Conover
Austen Kroll, arguably one of Craig’s closest friends, has called out his buddy more than once regarding his absence from the group. But all of that is about the change as Craig gets himself back on the market. I remember a time when Austen, Shep Rose, and Craig could not be separated. Remember when Craigy was sloppy, sweaty, and drinking all the time? The man couldn’t even hold down a job with T-Rav’s BFF. Now, I don’t think Craig will be reverting to the Season 1 version of himself, but I foresee a messy Craig coming our way. Early Craig could have been considered toxic. I mean, he once made a mess and refused to clean it because he claimed that was what “maids” were for. Yikes.
Craig Conover and his early years
Sometimes, I like to take a walk down memory lane. For me, Craig always came across as a frat boy. He enjoyed his time out with the guys and more than once referred to the women as “girls” on the show. In Season 1 Craig was in law school and all about the Charleston lifestyle. But even though he claimed he had a job, he also once admitted to being a “great liar” during a therapy session. And this is where the problem with Craig starts (cute the Sound of Music backdrop). As Craig once said, Charleston “is a playground for men who never want to grow up.”
For years, Craig didn’t grow up. He lied about taking the Bar exam and struggled to adjust to his new normal. I’d argue Paige helped get him on the right track to success, thanks to her hustler mentality. But without Paige what is to become of Craig? I’m not saying his business is going to fold. All I am wondering is if he will be able to hold himself together to continue his upward trajectory. He could easily go back to sleeping to noon and bailing on his responsibilities.
Craig Conover was a ladies’ man
Now that he is going through his breakup with Paige, the odds are high that Craig could take comfort in his old lifestyle. Unlike before, I doubt he will be fighting Shep for the same women as in the earlier seasons, but Craig will most likely be more emboldened when it comes to wooing the ladies. And there are a lot of single women in the Bravosphere. Between Luann de Lesseps, who is a known cougar, and the Southern Hospitality cast, Craig has a plethora of options. He will, however, need to work on his pickup lines. As I recall, he once told a woman he watched the “sunrise 27 days out of the month.”
Perhaps the worst thing that Craig could do is become the truth-teller once again. He once had the help of liquor to lubricate his lips, but now he has his success to give him a boost. Who could forget Craig telling Kathryn Dennis, “Sleeping with three people at this table isn’t class.” Lord, I am not ready for that Craig to reappear just yet. I don’t think it is too far-fetched to see Craig maintaining a new social life while getting all his work done, especially because he’s now his own boss. So, ladies of Charleston and beyond, watch out because single Craig is back on the hunt and about to become a menace.
Southern Charm is available to stream on Peacock.
