I was never much of a Survivor fan. Like most reality TV fanatics I did grow up watching the early years of Survivor and know who the GOATS are. But I have been a follower of The Traitors since the beginning. And Season 3 has highlighted just how great Carolyn Wiger is. Now, usually, I root for the Real Housewives because I know and love them but this time, I think I’ll be betting on Carolyn.
Carolyn Wiger has overcome addiction
After sleeping in a jungle for 26 days, Carolyn can do just about anything she sets her mind to. She recently opened up to Parade about her addiction story, which made me like her even more. Fans first met her on Season 44 of Survivor where she placed third overall. She shared with the outlet that “Active addiction is mental and emotional torture. It took me years to realize my mistakes don’t define me. I’ve worked hard to become this person I am proud of. I know this game will break me down but I am strong, resilient, and most importantly, I believe in myself!”
There is no doubt Carolyn is one tough cookie, but I want the rest of her cast to take her seriously. Between hospitalizations, DUIs, and arrests Carolyn has been through a lot. The reality TV star shared in an Instagram post “I don’t believe in ‘rock bottom,’ because if I would have waited for rock bottom, then I would be dead.” She didn’t give up and instead persevered. She found sobriety at 22, which she shares is why she is so comfortable in her own body and can freely express herself.
Carolyn Wiger calls herself weird
During the promo video for Season 3, Carolyn noted, “I do think I need to calm down a little bit, but I really don’t want to—I’m just too excited! I’m going to be me the entire time.” Hailing from Minnesota, she was loyal to a fault. And while fans got to know her as a happy-go-lucky gal, that wasn’t always the case. Episode 1 showed Carolyn running around the house trying to find her fellow traitors. As the rest of the house watched her, she told cameras she had always been the weird one, the quirky one. Eccentric or not, Carolyn is coming across as extremely down to earth.
I’m starting to think that some of her behavior is a part of her strategy. Her unbridled personality is a big reason she made it so far in Survivor. I will say I also like that she gives off vibes of being Kim Zolciak and Trishelle Cannatella’s love child. However, I’d argue she is a bit classier than Kim. The newest traitor seems genuine, which makes me like her even more. It is also extremely inspiring that she is now an addiction counselor and is making it a point to help others.
Carolyn Wiger is one smart cookie
You can’t beat around the bush. Carolyn is super intelligent. Already in the first three episodes, I’ve seen the former Survivor cast member is super strategic despite seeming to be a bit dim. She’s come across as smart, funny, chaotic and I love her for that. The best example of her intuition was her argument to keep Dorinda Medley from being murdered. While the other traitors were just looking at the short-term game, Carolyn was looking at the end result. She knew Dorinda was loud and would be a great diversion from their treachery. But alas, no one listened.
After watching a few clips of Survivor, I can see why people in the tribe counted on her. Carolyn is incredibly smart and perceptive! In my opinion, Carolyn is a great representation of not judging a book by its cover. Yes, she might look a bit wild, but deep down to her core, she is a caring person who makes sure to watch her surroundings. It is clear to me that Carolyn is a kick-ass lady who has been through a lot of life experiences. And I love rooting for an underdog. So, Carolyn, you have my vote.
