Why Diddy's Attorney Suddenly Quit!

Diddy faced a legal blow on Friday when one of his lawyers suddenly asked to be removed from his case, claiming in a letter to a judge that “under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs.” Pretty ominous!

Diddy’s been locked up for allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Really intense stuff. To have one of his attorneys all of a sudden walk away from such a serious case seemed like a bad sign. Now, we’re learning more about what went down.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation from Diddy’s camp who spoke with TMZ on Friday, attorney Anthony Ricco wants off the case because he couldn’t get on the same page as the rest of the lawyers. Apparently, there was a power struggle between Anthony and the lead attorney on the case, Marc Agnifilo, for several months and it finally came to a head this week.

The issue reportedly stemmed from the rapper’s sex trafficking allegations. The lawyers were in disagreement about how to handle the charges when they go to trial in May. FWIW, Marc, on behalf of his client, has denied the sex trafficking charges and has asked a judge to dismiss the transportation to engage in prostitution charge.

It’s not exactly clear how Anthony wanted to address these trafficking charges in court, but according to insiders, he got upset when his attempts to speak to Puff Daddy directly about legal strategies were stopped by co-counsel — so that’s why he didn’t think he could properly defend the 55-year-old.

Interestingly, he also really didn’t think the team would be ready for a May 5 trial and thought they should ask for more time, but the other lawyers disagreed. So, he’d had enough and left!

Sources added that this lawyer’s departure is a big fuss over nothing, insisting that lead defense attorneys Marc and Teny Geragos have been “rock solid” for almost a year now. A judge needs to sign off on Anthony’s request before this is official, by the way.
