Why Sutton Stracke’s Sisterhood Ritual Failed on RHOBH Season 14

2 days ago 3

Season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has no shortage of drama. Viewers are seeing a new, and confident, Dorit Kemsley amid her separation from her husband, PK Kemsley. While Kyle Richards was also navigating her separation from her husband, Mauricio Umansky, the two former friends could not be further apart. So, during a trip to Oceanside, California, Sutton Stracke came up with an idea to unite the group.

Also along for the ride this season are Sutton friends, newbie housewife Bozoma Saint John, and friend of the cast, Jennifer Tilly. I’m not counting Jennifer’s creepy friend Tiffany as part of the cast. I’m not down with devilish-looking dolls.

Seeing Dorit’s pain, Sutton offered to be there for her, even proclaiming that she would go to court with her. At the time, the gesture touched Dorit, but she wasn’t sure if she could trust Sutton. After all, the two ladies were never close.

So, in the spirit of coming together to support each other, Sutton performed a sisterhood ritual. However, by the next morning, it had fallen apart. Here’s why Sutton Stracke’s sisterhood ritual failed on RHOBH Season 14.

Sutton Stracke worked hard on preparing the ritual on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

After Dorit and Kyle had a vicious fight during dinner in Oceanside, Sutton was horrified by the argument. It was obvious that the wounds came from years earlier, much to Sutton’s surprise. Dorit dragged the fight all the way back to Kyle’s New York Fashion Week show in 2019. Oh, Lordy.

The next day, on the yacht, Dorit and Kyle decided to attempt to move forward. This inspired Sutton to offer to be there for Dorit. After all, she knows a thing or two about messy divorces. That evening, Sutton put pen to paper (literally) and wrote an essay about friendship and sisterhood. After dinner, she planned to read her words, hoping that they would inspire the ladies to be there for each other.

Sutton had the group each put one palm out, symbolically tying them together with a ribbon. “Trust and honesty comes to mind as the backbone of real friendship and sisterhood. Friendships are not perfect,” Sutton stated. “There are many ups and downs, twists and turns. But we are all in this together, in sisterhood. In truth, we are now sisters forever.” If only the bonds of sisterhood could have lasted for 24 hours, but alas, it was not to be.

The rest of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast did not take it seriously

As Sutton prepared to read her speech, the ladies poked fun at her for pausing and not remembering her heartfelt words. Plus, as she read her words, some of her RHOBH co-stars were less than impressed. Notably, Erika Jayne, Dorit, and Kyle smirked.

Of course, Erika had to be super shady in her confessional. “I’m sorry. Are we in cheer camp? Are we in Brownie camp?” she asked. “Girl scout camp?” Perhaps not, but some of the ladies are acting like they are in grade school.

As Sutton pulled out the blue sash to bind their palms together, Boz had some thoughts. “I don’t know what incantations Sutton is saying under her breath to tie us together,” Boz said in her confessional.

For her part, Sutton shared one more vulnerable moment. “I really want this to be our year that we really bond in friendship,” she said. So, was Sutton’s sisterhood ritual cheesy? Maybe. However, she was coming from a good place. She wanted the ladies to support each other and be honest with each other. But that was a tall order.

Sutton hoped she had created a place for the RHOBH cast to openly share their feelings without fearing an icy reception. However, the next morning, her good intentions hit the fan. While the group was in a Sprinter van, Sutton pointed out that Erika and Kyle were whispering about what Dorit said about her friendship with Teddi Mellencamp. Dorit initially denied being friends with Teddi. Later on, Dorit claimed that she said that she was friends with Teddi, but that they weren’t really close.

Then, Dorit missed the point, going on about Teddi and their friendship. When Sutton tried to explain that it wasn’t about Teddi, Dorit’s anger ignited again. The two ladies began to raise their voices, ending the trip on a sour note.

That unpleasant feeling carried over to Kyle’s Denim & Diamonds party. After Boz gathered the group together for a “tribal council,” Sutton once again brought up sisterhood. In response, Erika called Sutton “volatile.” Of course, Erika was steamed because Sutton called her out for talking behind Dorit’s back. And previously, Dorit called Sutton’s ritual “hypocritical.”

According to Dorit, she was the only one being honest, which caused Sutton to throw a low blow at Dorit. And her words deeply affected the rest of the group.

During her spat with Dorit, Sutton told her, “You’re angry, and you’re not angry at me. You’re angry at your life.” Sutton added, “And don’t take it out on me.”

Of course, Sutton’s words caused a strong reaction among the Beverly Hills ladies. At least one of the group agreed with Sutton. In her confessional, Kyle admitted that she agreed with Sutton, but she wasn’t planning to mention it to Dorit right now.

Then Boz mentioned that the group “can’t weaponize in moments of vulnerability.” This caught Sutton off-guard. “Whose weaponizing?” Sutton asked.

Boz responded that it was Sutton. “You just did, though. When you said she’s not mad at you, she’s mad at her life,” Boz explained. “That’s weaponizing.” According to Sutton, she was just being honest and sharing her feelings. Once again, she offered Dorit any support that she might need amid her separation from PK.

Dorit replied, “I would really love to believe that, Sutton. But actions are going to speak louder than words.” For Dorit, Sutton’s words were just an attempt to look like a great friend in front of the group. Ouch!

It’s not a shock that Sutton’s sisterhood ritual failed. The RHOBH cast was not invested in changing the dynamic to one where they wouldn’t talk behind each other’s backs. Some of these ladies do their best pot-stirring that way. In the end, Sutton’s attempt at being honest made the divide wider between her and Dorit.
