Teddi Mellencamp explained why she is choosing to withhold details pertaining to her decision to file for divorce from her husband, Edwin Arroyave.
“At this point, I’m obviously only going to share what I shared on social media, and I just am trying — I don’t even know how to say this eloquently — but I am just trying my hardest to make sure that my kids’ privacy is protected right now,” the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, 43, said in Tuesday’s episode of her podcast with Tamra Judge, “Two Ts in a Pod.”
Mellencamp, who shares three children with Arroyave, shared that she is focused on having important “conversations” with her family and does “not want” her marital woes to “blow up” in the media.
“For anybody that’s curious why I would’ve posted a statement, it’s because when your name is recognizable and you file in the court system, it becomes public,” she explained.
Judge, 57, interrupted her friend to point out that people can also say “horrible, rotten things” on social media about a subject that is “very sensitive” to the children.
“I know that I am going to keep working on feeling my best so that I can show up the best for my kids and my life and my work, and yeah, I mean, I think that’s the biggest thing for me right now,” Mellencamp continued, adding that she is “doing all right” overall.

The former Bravolebrity also clapped back at fans who have called her a “hypocrite” for not publicly sharing more information about her divorce since she discusses other reality TV stars and their lives on her podcast.
“When it does come to this and children, I think there’s room to give it [grace],” she said. “It’s a little bit different than what we’re getting into [in Tuesday’s episode].”
Mellencamp shares son Cruz, 10, and daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, 4, with Arroyave.
The daughter of famed musician John Mellencamp stunned fans Saturday when she announced that she had made the “difficult decision to file for divorce” from the former Skyline Security CEO after 13 years of marriage.
“My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter,” she wrote on Instagram.
Teddi added that she wanted to be “open, honest and vulnerable” to help “protect [her] family from undue speculation and rumors.”
Arroyave, 47, has yet to publicly comment on the separation, but he has taken to social media to share cryptic quotes and photos of their kids.
“You’re not always going to be motivated or inspired,” he wrote on his Instagram Story Sunday. “That’s where rituals & habits come in. Having good habits is what will get you through your dark days. It’s when you’re under pressure that your true character is revealed.”
Page Six obtained Teddi’s divorce documents Monday, which showed she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup and listed the date of separation as Oct. 20.
The accountability coach requested primary legal and physical custody of their three children and spousal support from her estranged husband.
