NBC News Daily anchor and senior consumer investigative correspondent Vicky Nguyen appeared on the Today show's Thursday, December 26 episode. During the episode, Nguyen's interesting choice of footwear stood out to her co-anchors.
Nguyen was discussing student loan changes with weekend co-anchors Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander when the latter pointed out her bright yellow slippers. She was wearing a purple suit with it, so the clashing colors made the shoes pop.
"That's a good look!" Alexander joked.
"Oh no noooo," Nguyen responded, then explained what led to her wearing slippers to work. "This is the day-after-Christmas mom-brain moment where I thought I had the shoes but didn't have the shoes."
"Listen, they're very comfortable, I will say," she added.
Today meteorologist Dylan Dreyer stood by Nguyen's slipper decision, as the hilarious joke continued. "We all want the cozy feel after Christmas, right?" Dreyer said. "We ate too much! We're just tired!"
Nguyen joined NBC News in 2019 and has frequently made Today appearances since. She also has three daughters, Emerson, 15, Odessa, 12, and Renley, 8, with her husband, Brian.
In December 2023, Nguyen spoke about her family's Barbie-themed Christmas card, noting that they enjoy getting into the holiday spirit.
"Each year we try to find something fun in the zeitgeist or meaningful to us and our loved ones," Nguyen shared to Today.com. "The first year we moved to New York, we did a shoot on the subway wearing old-school hip-hop tracksuits. We've done one that was '80s-workout themed. We just want to surprise and delight our friends and family."
"Now that the girls are getting older they have opinions, but this was an easy unanimous yes," she added. "We were very excited about Barbie in our mojo dojo casa house. We just want to make these fun memories for our daughters and put something fun and joyful into the world."
