A woman unboxed her grandmother's wedding dress, which had been left in a box for over six decades.
The bride-to-be (@missshoneeyy) shared the unboxing of the ornate and lace floor-length gown, which garnered 89,600 likes and 1.2 million views on TikTok.
"POV your grandmother's wedding dress has been sitting in a box for 64 years," she wrote as the text overlaid the video.
"She was worn once, 64 years ago," she captioned the post.
The video shows the bride sporting the floor-length princess gown with long lace sleeves and a square neck.
The TikToker also shared multiple follow-up videos, explaining more about the history of the dress and her family's reaction to her in the gown.
She responded to users' fears that she would cut the dress, reassuring them she was keeping it exactly how it was, but she is wearing it for her rehearsal dinner.
"This needs to be your wedding day dress. It is so beautiful. It is rare to find a new dress that is this incredible," said one viewer.
Her grandfather was reduced to tears in the video where she revealed the dress to her family.
In a follow-up video, she shared black and white photos of her grandmother in the dress on her wedding day 64 years ago. The dress looked the same but appeared slightly fuller, as it had not been confined to a box for so long.
"But it is so beautiful. It is so timeless. She looks stunning, and it's just such a beautiful dress. They're so cute," she said as she flicked through the photo album.
Social media users echoed her admiration for the gown.
"Granny had style!! I absolutely love that dress," said one viewer.
"It's so Grace Kelly. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE A THING. It looks stunning on you the way it is," said another user.
"I wouldn't change one single thing about that dress. It is literally the dress of my dreams!" a viewer commented.
"I love when family does this for their older family members' gowns! I just know that it filled your Grandmother's heart with pure joy, happiness and pride! Such a sweet moment," said Roxy.
In addition to the heartfelt reactions, the story highlights a growing trend of upcycling vintage wedding dresses. Brides increasingly find creative ways to breathe new life into heirloom gowns while preserving their sentimental value.
According to Canvas Bridal, upcycling can involve altering the dress to fit modern styles, adding new embellishments, or even transforming it into entirely new garments such as cocktail dresses or jackets. This approach allows brides to honor family traditions while making the dress uniquely their own.
