Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, has responded on Friday to the alleged manifesto of U.S. Army soldier Matthew Livelsberger in the Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas.
Newsweek has reached out to Greene's office via email for comment on Saturday afternoon.
Why It Matters
Firework mortars and camp fuel canisters were found inside the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump's Las Vegas hotel early Wednesday. The blast resulted in a single casualty, the suspect inside the vehicle, and sparked national attention and a thorough investigation into potential terrorism.
Investigators are still determining Livelsberger's motives for detonating the explosives outside the hotel, with his alleged manifesto, emailed to retired U.S. Army intelligence officer Sam Shoemate, providing some clues. In the document, Livelsberger allegedly raised questions about national security and U.S. military transparency—offering potential insight into his actions.
Greene, a staunch supporter of Trump, has since responded to the alleged manifesto as the incident has caused many to speculate about Livelsberger's motives. However, law enforcement officials said they do not believe he had any negative feelings toward Trump, according to the Associated Press.
What To Know
On Thursday, authorities identified the victim as Livelsberger, 37, who reportedly shot himself in the head moments before the explosion. Seven others, meanwhile, were injured in the incident. Authorities found several charred items inside the truck including a handgun at Livelsberger's feet, another firearm, a passport, a military ID, credit cards, an iPhone and a smartwatch.
Responding to a post on X, formerly Twitter, from podcaster Shawn Ryan that showed a screenshot of the email of Livelsberger's alleged manifesto that was sent to Shoemate, Greene wrote that it "changes everything."
While it is unclear what Greene exactly meant in her post, she previously took to X to share her thoughts on the incident.
Before Livelsberger's body was identified to be inside the charred Cybertruck, the congresswoman wrote: "It is becoming increasingly obvious that the terrorist attacks in New Orleans and the Las Vegas Trump Hotel are organized and connected. While we wait for more details, I'd like to point out that it's insane to fund our enemies. [Mike] Johnson, [Chuck] Schumer, and [Mitch] McConnell gave $9B to Hamas and Biden gave $10B to Iran in 2024."
Her remarks come as the FBI is investigating a separate New Year's Day incident as an act of terrorism in which 14 people were killed when suspect Shamsud-Din Bahar drove a car into a crowd in New Orleans, Louisiana, early Wednesday. Jabbar was shot dead by police after being involved in a shootout with them. Later, the FBI said an ISIS flag was found in the truck he drove into the crowd.
However, authorities have not said that these two incidents are connected.
Greene also previously wrote on X on Wednesday evening, "The Las Vegas sheriff said that the Cybertruck's frame actually limited the blast even protecting the Trump hotel. I was impressed over the holidays when I tried out the full self driving feature of a Cybertruck. It drove me to Starbucks and home flawlessly. But it's even more impressive that the integrity of the Cybertruck saved lives from the LV terrorist bomb."
The congresswoman's Friday X post comes after Shoemate, an intelligence analyst, received an email from a sender, who claimed to be Livelsberger. Shoemate revealed the email on The Shawn Ryan Show podcast, describing its contents as allegations of advanced drone technology, a cover-up of a 2019 airstrike in Afghanistan and claims of being under U.S. government surveillance.
The alleged email details two major claims.
First, it said the mystery drones that have been spotted over New Jersey in November and December 2024 were of Chinese origin and used "gravitic propulsion systems" that are "the most dangerous threat to national security that has ever existed."
Second, the email detailed alleged war crimes, such as an airstrike in the Afghanistan province of Nimruz in 2019 that Livelsberger claims he helped cover up.
Ryan and Shoemate have since taken to social media and The Shawn Ryan Show podcast to share more about the email and messages allegedly from Livelsberger. While both have repeated during a recent podcast episode that they have not been able to verify any of the claims that the email raised, they would work to do so.
What People Are Saying
Las Vegas' FBI's special agent in charge Spencer Evans said Friday at a news conference: "Although this incident is more public and more sensational than usual, it ultimately appears to be a tragic case of suicide involving a heavily decorated combat veteran who was struggling with PTSD and other issues."
Deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh told reporters Friday that "the [Defense] department has turned over all [of Livelsberger's] medical records to local law enforcement."
Donell Harvin, former Washington D.C. chief of Homeland Security and Intelligence, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room Friday night, "These new details shed some light on the fact that, in my professional opinion, this was not a politically motivated violence. This is a tragic case as the Las Vegas police said of suicide."
What Happens Next
Authorities are still working to determine a motive as the FBI is expected to continue to examine the evidence to determine whether the manifesto is legitimately tied to Livelsberger.
