Workaholics star Waymond Lee dies at 72 after health battle as co-star Adam DeVine says he’s ‘gutted’

THE actor Waymond Lee, who starred in the hit comedy Workaholics, has died after a battle with the degenerative disease ALS.

Lee died on December 18 and spent time in hospital before his death, his family have said.

The star was diagnosed with a brain illness in October before tests revealed he was suffering from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), as reported by TMZ.

Lee’s family said he was recently rushed to the hospital but was struggling to swallow and breathe, so he had to be readmitted.

Doting wife Diane was by his side when he died.

Fellow Workaholics star Adam DeVine has led the tributes.

“Rest in peace, Waymond Lee,” he said. 

“I am gutted. He was such a kind man. 

“My deepest condolences go out to his wife Diane and the rest of his family.

"He was always down to do whatever insane thing we wrote for him on Workaholics. He was always game. 

“A true professional. Even though I haven’t seen him since the workaholics days this is hitting me like a brick to the face. 

“When I think of our show, I think of Waymond.

"The older I get the more I realize what a special time that was. You will be missed Way Way!”

Lee delivered "endless laughs" to Workaholics fans, a Comedy Central X account post said.

Lee starred in 44 episodes of the comedy show between 2011 and 2017.

He recently starred in the 2024 movie Final Wager, which also features Reservoir Dogs, Free Willy, and Donnie Brasco star Michael Madsen.

Lee also played a churchgoer in the 2018 movie Con Man - a flick that starred Justin Baldoni.

During his TV career that spanned more than a decade, he made cameo appearances in hit shows, including Desperate Housewives and NCIS: Los Angeles.

He had uncredited roles in CSI: NY and the medical drama Grey's Anatomy.

According to his IMDB, Lee also appeared in shows such as How I Met Your Mother, Dexter, and Law & Order: Los Angeles.
