In 2025, WWE is going to be defined by the John Cena Retirement Tour.

Arguably the most successful professional wrestler of all time, Cena announced this past year that this would be his final year wrestling for WWE and that he would dedicate all of 2025 to the promotion.

Naturally, this has prompted a positive response from wrestling fans as well as plenty of questions, including who Cena should face at his final WrestleMania.

While there were rumors that he would face Logan Paul at the Showcase of the Immortals, a new report suggests that Cena could actually have championship aspirations.

According to a report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (per Joseph Currier of Figure Four Online), Cena is likely to face the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.

"So for WrestleMania, the reports of Rhodes vs. John Cena are accurate as things stand right now," Meltzer said. "The idea of Cena challenging one of the two champions in an attempt to break the so-called record of 16 reigns that he and Flair share has been a working idea for months."

This was also confirmed by Fightful Select, who stated that the "working plan" is for Cena to face Rhodes. However, both Meltzer and Fightful Select stated that nothing is "etched in stone" and things could change depending on whether Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wants to be involved with WrestleMania.

"Fightful Select was told as far back as mid-November that Cody Rhodes and Cena was the plan after it was indicated that the Rock's schedule was unclear for Mania," Fightful Select said. "As has been widely reported, The Rock isn't currently factored into WrestleMania plans, but everyone knows that they are 'at the mercy of his schedule' as has been noted a number of times."

If the reports are true, the blockbuster match-up would have serious implications for both Rhodes and Cena.

Cena is currently tied with Ric Flair for having the most world championships in professional wrestling history at 16 (13 WWE Championships, three World Heavyweight Championships).

If he were to defeat Rhodes at The Grandest Stage of Them All, Cena would cement himself as the greatest professional wrestler of all time.

This would also make him an early favorite to win the Royal Rumble since that is the easiest way to earn a title shot at WrestleMania.

However, if Rhodes were to defeat Cena, it would establish him as the top guy in the company, over the likes of Roman Reigns, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and anyone else who stands in his way.

Basically, it would be Cena officially passing the torch to Rhodes.

No matter what happens, this would likely become one of the biggest matches in WrestleMania history.
