The Bloodline have been dethroned as WWE Tag Team Champions in a surprise upset, giving up the belts to Motor City Machine Guns on last night's SmackDown.

Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, who perform jointly as Motor City Machine Guns, defeated Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa of the Bloodline, who had reigned as Tag Team Champions for nearly 90 days.

Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu were the original champions, but Bloodline leader Solo Sikoa instructed Fatu to give up his half of the title to fellow Bloodline member Tonga Loa (who teams with Tama as The Tongans) during an episode of SmackDown, allowing Fatu could serve as Sikoa's enforcer.

This is Motor City Machine Guns' first stint at WWE Tag Team Champions and a surprise upset for the otherwise hugely dominant Bloodline stable.

The WWE officially congratulated Shelley and Sabin on social media, posting "WHAT. A. NIGHT. 👏👏👏 #ANDNEW WWE Tag Team Champions... Motor City Machine Guns! Congratulations!"

More praise is being heaped on Motor City Machine Guns by both industry legends and fans alike. Triple H posted a picture of himself with Shelley and Sabin, saying "On one hand... a long time coming. On the other hand... three matches in
@WWE, and they're already champions. Congratulations to the Motor City Machine Guns @AlexShelley313 & @SuperChrisSabin"

The new Tag Team Champions gave statements after winning on SmackDown. Shelley expressed his shock, saying "I think it's still sinking in. I'm almost kind of speechless, I don't know what to say. It's kind of unheard of to be on the fast track to success like this in WWE, but this is exactly what we came here to do. We came here to prove that we're one of the greatest tag teams of all time. And there's only one place you can do that, and that's right here in WWE."

His partner Sabin, meanwhile, chimed in to say, "Quite frankly, it doesn't matter what we did last week, it doesn't matter what we did an hour ago. What matters right now is that we're champions and we have to hold onto these. The hard work's just beginning, but you ain't seen nothing yet. We're the greatest of all time for a reason - we're gonna prove it to the WWE Universe."

The duo won the championship on its mere third match in the WWE, but Motor City Machine Guns are well known for their long tenure on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Over the years, they have held the TNA/Impact World Tag Team Championship three times, as well as numerous other belts from other promotions.
