Yankees Could Trade $36 Million All-Star Pitcher Back to Former Team

To say Marcus Stroman has been disappointing for the New York Yankees is an understatement.

In just one season in the Bronx, Stroman recorded a 4.30 ERA through 30 appearances (29 starts). He averaged fewer than seven strikeouts per nine innings, the second-lowest total of his career. His stats in 2015 were the lowest after missing almost all of the season with a torn ACL.

The Yankees have planned their rotation for 2025 without Stroman. While they could keep him for the bullpen, it doesn't make sense for them to keep an $18 million starter-turned-reliever for the next two seasons.

On the other hand, the Toronto Blue Jays have missed out on Corbin Burnes, Max Fried and other top starters. Could Stroman be a good fit in Toronto once again?

Prior to being in 2019, Stroman posted a 2.96 ERA in 21 starts with the Blue Jays before he was shipped to the New York Mets. Here is what a potential trade could look like:

  • Toronto Blue Jays Acquire: SP Marcus Stroman
  • New York Yankees Acquire: LHP Kendry Rojas (Blue Jays No. 11 prospect), INF Eddinson Paulino (Blue Jays No. 17 prospect)

Stroman has two years of team control that would allow the Blue Jays to complete the rotation. He would benefit from having players like Kevin Gausman and José Berríos as the Nos. 1-2 pitchers. It would allow him to avoid any extra pressure.

The Yankees would receive Rojas and Paulino as part of the salary dump. Rojas could start 2025 at Double-A while Paulino may even start at Triple-A.
