The New York Yankees are reportedly looking to trade starting pitcher Marcus Stroman this winter. Stroman is slated to earn $18 million in 2025 and 2026.
The righty failed to land on the Yankees' World Series roster in 2024, which makes a trade this offseason quite logical. New York is reportedly willing to eat a chunk of his contract to get a deal done.
Austin Owens of FanSided recently suggested it could be the Atlanta Braves that swing the blockbuster trade for Stroman. Owens noted it would likely only come to fruition if New York was willing to eat a large chunk of the right-hander's salary.
"With Spencer Strider recovering from surgery and not expected to be ready by Opening Day, the Braves only have three healthy returning starting pitchers: Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez, and Spencer Schwellenbach," Owens wrote. "Even once Strider returns from injury, Atlanta will still have one slot in their starting rotation to fill.
"If the Yankees are willing to take on a large amount of Stroman's salary, Alex Anthopoulos should make a deal to bring him to Atlanta. The Braves want to contend for a World Series, and as currently constructed, they don't stand much of a chance in the crowded NL East."
Stroman would be an obvious upgrade for Atlanta. While he may not be able to take over at the top of the rotation where Fried was, the righty could replace Morton as a consistent staple for the Braves.
It would likely cost a few prospects to bring him in if the Yankees are eating a chunk of his contract but the Braves can afford to do so.
