Yankees Predicted To Trade $37 Million Pitcher To Division Rival In Shocking Deal

The New York Yankees have more starting pitchers than they know what to do with. Gerrit Cole is the team's ace and he's joined by free-agent acquisition Max Fried at the top of the rotation. After trading Nester Cortes to the Milwaukee Brewers, New York rounds out the rotation with Clark Schmidt, Luis Gil, Carlos Rodon, and Marcus Stroman.

Add in the fact the Yankees have a few top pitching prospects who are big-league ready and it becomes clear the Bronx Bombers need to unload one of their major league starters in a trade.

Austin Owens of FanSided recently predicted the Yankees would trade Stroman back to the Toronto Blue Jays where the righty began his big league career.

"Now that we are quickly approaching Spring Training, the Blue Jays have to make moves if they want to compete in a very tough American League East division," Owens wrote. "The Orioles, Yankees, and Red Sox have all made big splashes this offseason while the Blue Jays have remained idle. Acquiring Stroman would be a huge risk for the Toronto Blue Jays but it is not that unlikely at this point considering how desperate they may be for improvement."

The Blue Jays need to make a move and the Yankees would be better off unloading nearly $20 million off their books.

Toronto could use an extra starter, especially one with experience like Stroman has. After spending the first six years of his big league career in Toronto, Stroman is very familiar with the Blue Jays, as they are with him.

Stroman was a healthy scratch from the Yankees' World Series roster in 2024, so there's really no use in keeping him on their loaded roster. If the Bronx Bombers can get off his contract and add a prospect or two, they would be in a much better position.
