The New York Yankees are reportedly trying to trade starting pitcher Marcus Stroman this offseason. Stroman is set to make just over $18 million in 2025 with a vesting option in 2026. If the righty pitches 140 or more innings in 2025, the option activates for another $18 million in 2026.
Stroman didn't crack the Yankees' starting rotation in the 2024 World Series and New York has added Max Fried since then. It makes sense why the Bronx Bombers would want to move on from the talented righty.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently reported the Yankees would even be willing to eat a chunk of Stroman's salary in order to trade him this winter. That could open up the possibility of moving him.
"The Yankees are still trying to trade Marcus Stroman and are willing to pay down his $18 million salary," Heyman wrote. "Should they save money there, the Yankees would have more to spend on an infielder — though don't expect Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado. While there've been reports of trade talks surrounding the Padres' Luis Arraez, there isn't believed much traction there."
It's hard to believe there won't be suitors for Stroman. The Baltimore Orioles have lost Corbin Burnes this winter and replaced him with Charlie Morton. Adding Stroman would be great depth.
The Atlanta Braves lost both Fried and Morton and haven't replaced them yet. A trade with Atlanta would make quite a bit of sense, especially if the Yankees can snag an infielder in return.
