There are a lot of plot points that fans of Yellowstone want resolved when the second part of season five premieres on Sunday—including the rivalry between siblings Jamie and Beth Dutton.
The hit Paramount+ series is coming to a close forever, with the final six episodes airing from Sunday, November 10.
The first half of the season ran from November 2022 to January 2023 after a number of factors brought production to a halt, leaving fans on a knife edge over what would happen to the Dutton ranching family.
Yellowstone is set in Montana on the fictional cattle ranch of the same name, which is the largest in the U.S. Uncompromising patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) ruled with an iron fist to protect his land and family interests. Costner is not returning to Yellowstone's final episodes over rumored creative differences with the show's co-creator, Taylor Sheridan.
Part one of season five saw John, who had just been elected the governor of Montana, face a political dilemma when his son Jamie (Wes Bentley)—the state's attorney general—called for his impeachment. The move infuriated his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly), who believes the only way to protect her dad is to have her brother killed—or, as murder is referred to on Yellowstone, "send him to the train station."
Little does Beth know, Jamie has anticipated her move and is looking into hiring assassins to off his sister before she can beat him to it.
Both siblings believe their actions are in the best interest of protecting the family and their ranch, but who do the actors think their characters would side with?
Team Jamie
Newsweek asked Bentley what he would say to fans to convince them to be Team Jamie.
"I thoroughly understand Jamie's argument for wanting to keep the ranch in modern times, and it seems to be the one that makes the most sense," Bentley began. "But it's hard to to tell people to root for a guy [who's] already murdered people."
Bentley said he feels biased toward Jamie because he's played him for so many years, and regardless of which side people choose, he's just glad Yellowstone has such a passionate fan base.
"I just enjoy that the fans do that, you know. It means they're really invested. So, that's kind of cool that everyone's doing that.
Divided Loyalties
The actors who play married couple Kayce and Monica Dutton, Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille, weighed in with their thoughts.
Grimes thinks that Kayce, who is Beth and Jamie's young sibling and currently in charge of the ranch, would struggle to choose between the two.
"I think Kayce would be very stuck. He wouldn't know which one to choose because that's sort of how he is," Grimes told Newsweek.
Whereas Asbille thinks Monica would square up firmly in Beth's corner, mainly because she has very little to do with Jamie. The actress also referenced occasions when Beth has supported Monica, including the time she confronted a racist shop owner who called the police on her sister-in-law.
"I think it has to be Team Beth, but also because Monica and Beth have such a deep sisterhood that they've built over the last several seasons," she said. "So Monica, I'd say, would be Team Beth."
