Yvette Nicole Brown credits her young Drake & Josh co-stars for helping sharpen her acting skills.
The actress, who played Helen Dubois, the manager of Premiere Theater who was also Josh’s (Josh Peck) boss on the hit Nickelodeon show, recently told People that her first acting teachers were actually Peck, Drake Bell and Miranda Cosgrove.
“It was amazing to see Drake, Josh and Miranda be so amazing at such young ages,” she explained. “I was just starting out as an actor, so I was really learning and studying these babies and learning how they were moving on these sets.”
“It was one of the first or second things I’d ever done. It was really exciting to be in that training ground and to be already working with professionals, even though they were really young,” Brown continued. “We had a really good time.”
Drake & Josh, which ran for four seasons from 2004 to 2007, followed Drake (Bell) and Josh, two teen stepbrothers with clashing personalities, as they navigate high school, their blended family and younger sister Megan (Cosgrove), who loves to pull pranks on them.
Brown also recently had a Drake & Josh reunion with Peck while appearing on his Good Guys podcast in November. During the episode, the pair acted out some of their scenes from the show, including when Helen returns to work after having eye surgery.
“Me and Josh fell right back into those characters [for the November reunion]. You would’ve thought it was 20 years ago, yesterday,” the Community actress recalled. “It was really interesting to realize how those characters still live in our bodies and we can just become Helen and Josh like that.”
Earlier this month, Bell also expressed interest in a Drake & Josh reboot with Peck.
“I have a really special place in my heart for Drake & Josh, and I would love to revisit the character,” he said at the time. “I’d love to revisit something with Josh, whether it’s a reboot or… my dream is to do something kind of like Curb Your Enthusiasm, where we’re playing ourselves but trying to navigate life today.”
