10 Pre-Made Halloween Costumes That Are Actually Cool

1 month ago 13

Is your wardrobe all set for tricks and treats? Every year around this time, io9 takes a look at the most popular costumes being peddled on the biggest seasonal sites. For 2024, we’re seeing lots of Beetlejuice, lots of Deadpool, and an extreme amount of Minions—plus these 10 picks that gave us a chuckle for originality, shock value, or both.

Count von Count

Vampires are never far from pop culture, and while lately the mood has been more What We Do in the Shadows, Interview With the Vampire, Salem’s Lot, and Nosferatu, the pointy-toothed Sesame Street gent who loves math (and presumably drinking blood?) is a perpetual favorite. You can snag this officially licensed costume, which includes the jacket, cape, sash, and mask, for $60 at Spirit Halloween.

Ecto-1

Ecto 1© Spirit Halloween

It lights up, it’s inflatable, it’s officially licensed, and it’s the best way to speed across New York City en route to capturing the next rogue ghost. The downside: it doesn’t come with the Ghostbusters jumpsuit, so you’ll have to DIY that part. (It does come with batteries, however). The Ecto-1 goes for $60 at Spirit Halloween. There’s also a kid version for $50.

Bloody Art the Clown

Art 2© Spirit Halloween

You can also get this in a non-bloody version, but have you seen any of the Terrifier movies, especially the new hit Terrifier 3? A lot of people surely have, because both Art the Clown costumes, and the kid’s version, are sold out at Spirit Halloween online. For what it’s worth, you have to provide your own knife with this one—or live rats, hacksaw, chainsaw, etc. And, if you have your heart set on Art, you can still pick up the full face mask for $70.

Godzilla Pet Costume

The inflatable adult Godzilla costume is, alas, sold out on Godzilla.com—but you can still pick up the pooch version to transform your furry friend into the King of All Kaiju. It’ll set you back $30 and presumably several handfuls of treats while you snap pics of Rover stomping across a miniature cityscape. It comes in multiple sizes, so if you have a particularly patient cat you could also make an attempt at Catzilla too.

Disgust

Is this the Mindy Kaling or the Liza Lapira version of Disgust? That’s up to you to decide, though this outfit ($85-100) is currently sold out on HalloweenCostumes.com. If you want to pull together a costume for Ennui—who doesn’t have a pre-made outfit on offer, despite being neck and neck with Disgust for “prevailing emotion of our times”—HalloweenCostumes.com has a full selection of purple wigs. Just saying.

Animal

This ensemble honoring the most chaotic of all the Muppets is actually still on pre-order—HalloweenCostumes.com estimates it’ll ship “late October,” which could be cutting it close for Halloween parties. However, imagine the extreme delight you would bring to the masses if you showed up wearing this adorable costume. (Drumsticks do not appear to be included.)

Chestburster

This Alien costume comes with the shirt, pants, and belt; you supply the look of agonized horror mixed with the realization that you really shouldn’t have put your face anywhere near that weird, hatching egg thing on a strange planet in deep space. $60-90 at HalloweenCostumes.com.

The Dress

Thedress© Yandy.com

The inescapable meme from 2015 is still around—both as a deliberately passé Colin Robinson reference on the new season of What We Do in the Shadows, and as what looks like a surprisingly comfortable “sexy” costume ($41 on sale) on Yandy.com.

“What’s the Word”

Wordle© Yandy.com

I think we can all agree this is actually “Sexy Wordle,” carefully re-named by Yandy.com ($50 on sale) to avoid drawing the ire of any potentially litigious media companies. The thigh-high boots are not included, but as you can see there are a number of five-letter words incorporated into the costume that could help solve the day’s puzzle. Try and top that, Sexy Lydia Deetz (or any number of other racy character riffs you can find on Yandy)!

Skibidi Toilet

Skibidi© Spirit Halloween

Never forget we live in a society. This inflatable nightmare comes in one version—a “one size fits all” for kids—and will set you back $45 at Spirit Halloween.
