Who Was Arrested in Connection to Liam Payne’s Death?
Liam was 31 years old when he passed away on October 16, 2024, due to severe injuries sustained from his fall. Days later, his partial autopsy revealed that he had pink cocaine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack in his system at the time of his passing, according to ABC News.

The employee said the guest — who was not identified as Liam — had “overindulged on drugs and alcohol,” adding, “When he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please.”
The staff member requested police at the hotel “urgently” and was “afraid that he might do something life-threatening” as he was in a room with a balcony.
Liam was dead by the time authorities arrived on the scene. Buenos Aires police said that Liam’s fall from the third-floor balcony resulted in “extremely serious injuries” and medics confirmed his death on the spot.
“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” the authorities said. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”
There have been conflicting reports regarding the “What Makes You Beautiful” singer’s final moments. Authorities believed Liam may have been unconscious during the incident “due to the position in which the body was left.” They believed that “Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and that he could have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness,” investigators stated in a press release from the Argentina National Prosecutor’s Office.
The claim contradicted a police statement to The Associated Press on October 17, 2024, that said the former One Direction member “had jumped from the balcony of his room.”
An Argentinian journalist shared a new theory on October 28, 2024, claiming a security video showed Liam fainting before falling to his death.
“There is footage that is not being released to the media with the balcony scene where you see that Liam faints, and tragically because of where he is, falls from that balcony. If he had been beside his bed, he would have fallen on his bed,” Paula Varela claimed during an appearance on Socios del Espectáculo, a program on the Buenos Aires-based TV station Canal 13, according to The Mirror and GB News. “It’s not that he jumped deliberately. This footage is in the official case files.”
