Singer-songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull has died age 78, as tributes pour in.
The 60s vocalist, who has a very famous ex, passed away peacefully with her family. A spokesperson shared: "It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull.
"Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed."
The singer was best known for her 60s hit As Tears Go By, when she was just 17. She also dated Mick Jagger in her 20s, back when he lived a very different lifestyle to what he does now.
Marianne dated Mick from 1966 to 1970 in a very high profile relationship together. In 1968, Marianne delivered their daughter Corinna who was a stillborn at several months.
She claimed the relationship almost "destroyed" her but dubbed it as a "wonderful time".
After her romance with the rocker ended, she fell into addiction issues and found herself homeless for a while before making a mighty comeback in 1979 with a new album titled Broken English.
In her final Rolling Stone interview in 2021, she opened up about becoming a pop sensation in her teens. She told the publication: "The best part is that some people start to appreciate and like your work.
"The worst part is fame, isn’t it? I think fame is pretty awful. The really, really famous people that everybody loves, they die — like Princess Diana. That’s a very extreme example of what fame can do.
"And there’s this awful thing I’ve been watching about poor little Britney Spears. Christ. Luckily, I’ve never been quite that famous or that grand, and certainly not that rich. And anyway, [my fame] was only for quite a short time. The rest of it has been solid, plugging hard work."
The singer also touched upon her battle with heroin after becoming addicted to the life-wrecking substance in her 20s. She shared: "I just wish I’d never touched any of that stuff, and cigarettes and even alcohol — actually all of it. I’d be a lot better now."
Marianne had been married three times, Jon Dunbar (1965-1966), Ben Brierly (1979-1986) and Giorgio Della Terza (1988-1991). She is surviced by her son, Nicholas Dunbar, who she shared with her first husband.
