You might not realize it, but your Vivo or iQOO phone already comes packed with AI features that the brand has been quietly adding over time. We saw tools like AI Eraser and Jovi Lens with Funtouch OS 14, and things have gotten even smarter now with the release of Funtouch OS 15.
The new update brings even more AI features, such as intelligent photo optimization, real-time transcriptions, and a sleep mode that learns your habits to improve battery life. I’ve spent some time exploring Funtouch OS 15 and I’m excited to share all the AI stuff you’ll get on your Vivo or iQOO smartphone.
Note that unlike Samsung, which has gone all-in with Galaxy AI, Vivo has taken a more subtle approach. It offers plenty of hidden features, like the ability to move objects in photos, that Vivo doesn’t even advertise. However, these may not be available on all models. Let’s take a closer look.
1. AI Image Lab
Vivo has introduced an AI Image Lab feature with Funtouch OS 15, which uses artificial intelligence to automatically enhance your photos and remove shadows from your documents.
When editing photos in the Gallery, you’ll find a Repair option at the bottom. Tapping it reveals the AI Photo Enhance feature, which automatically adjusts the brightness, colors, shadows, and highlights of the photo.
Similarly, when you capture a photo of a document using your phone’s camera, AI Image Lab automatically offers the option to capture in Ultra HD Document mode. It intelligently optimizes text clarity and removes shadows, while also fixing moiré issues (wavy lines or distortion) when capturing documents or text on electronic screens.
2. AI Erase
Vivo phones have had the AI object eraser for a while, but with Funtouch OS 15, it’s been further improved. When you choose AI Erase while editing an image in the Gallery, you’re presented with two options: AI Smart Circle and Manual Scribble.
As the name suggests, the AI Smart Circle option automatically removes an object once you circle it. For example, if there’s a person in the background, simply circle them, and they will be removed from the image.
The Manual Scribble option, on the other hand, is useful when AI can’t identify the object or when you want to be more precise about which part of the image you’d like to remove. This is the same option that was available on Funtouch OS 14.
3. AI Cutout and Move Objects
Vivo also lets you cut out and move objects around in an image, just like Galaxy AI and Google Magic Editor. However, this feature is not available on all phones. We’ve mostly seen it on the flagship Vivo X-series devices.
In the Gallery editor, choose the Cutout option. It will then automatically recognize and highlight movable objects in the image, such as people. You can then drag and drop the highlighted person or object to anywhere in the image you’d like and tap Done.
4. CleanUp Suggestions
Cleanup Suggestions is another interesting feature on Funtouch OS 15. It’s available in the Gallery app under the Albums section. Once you run Cleanup Suggestions, it analyzes all the photos on your phone and gives you recommendations to delete duplicate and similar-looking photos.
It also prompts you to remove old screenshots and screen recordings, which can be useful for saving storage space on your phone.
5. Circle to Search
The AI-powered Circle to Search feature first debuted with the Galaxy S24 and gradually expanded to other Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices. It is now coming to more phones, including Vivo and iQOO phones that are running on Funtouch OS 15.
It is enabled by default. To use Circle to Search, tap and hold the home screen button or the bottom navigation bar. Then, draw a circle around the object you’re curious about, and Google will instantly show you relevant results from the web.
This handy AI tool lets you search for anything you see on your screen. For example, if you spot a cool pair of sneakers your favorite influencer is wearing, simply circle them with your finger, and Google will identify the brand and where to buy them.
6. AI Note Assist
Taking inspiration from Samsung Notes, Vivo has integrated artificial intelligence into its Notes app. With AI Note Assist, you can quickly extract important information and condense long paragraphs into concise summaries. It is currently available on the Vivo X Fold3 Pro and X100 series.
When you select text within the Notes app, you’ll find four options under AI Creation:
- Smart Layout: Intelligently organizes your notes with proper formatting.
- Summarize: Provide a brief overview of the selected text.
- Extract To-dos: Identifies and extracts action items or tasks.
- Translate: Translates the selected text between languages.
This means you don’t have to worry about organizing, formatting, or ensuring your notes are concise and easy to understand—the AI handles all of that for you.
7. AI Transcript Assist
Vivo’s Voice Recorder app now boasts an AI Transcript Assist feature that can transcribe audio recordings into text accurately. Simply start a recording, even with multiple speakers, and once you’re finished, tap the Transcribe button. The app will quickly process the audio and generate a text transcript, identifying who said what.
You’ll also find a concise summary of the entire recording at the top, making it easy to grasp the main points. This feature is incredibly useful for recording meetings, interviews, or even videos, and then effortlessly converting them into searchable text.
While initially introduced with the Vivo X Fold3 Pro and X100 series, AI Transcript Assist may gradually be rolled out to other Vivo and iQOO phones. Again, it’s very similar to Samsung’s Transcribe Assist feature.
8. AI Screen Translation
Vivo and iQOO phones have another cool feature called AI Screen Translation. It can translate any text on your screen into your language on any app and is not restricted to native or preinstalled apps. It’s like the Circle to Search feature but for translation. Here’s how to use it:
- Swipe from the side of the screen to open the Smart Sidebar (if not working, ensure it’s enabled in settings).
- Tap the More tools arrow at the bottom.
- Tap Screen Translation under Convenient Tools.
Now, it will translate everything on your screen. You can change languages at the top. You can also select the translated text to hear it spoken, search it online, or share it.
9. Jovi Lens
Jovi is the built-in smart assistant on Vivo smartphones, similar to Bixby on Samsung devices. It offers a range of AI-powered features including a voice assistant (for hands-free control), Jovi Home (a personalized dashboard), Smart Scene (contextual recommendations), and App Recommendations (suggests relevant apps).
You’ll also find the Jovi Lens app on your phone, which can search for objects on the web like Google Lens, scan documents like Adobe Scan, and perform OCR on photos to extract text into notes.
- Discover: Much like Google Lens or Circle to Search, Jovi Lens can identify objects, landmarks, and images by analyzing them and searching for information on the web. This can help you learn more about something you see, find where to buy it or identify a landmark.
- Scan Documents: Jovi Lens has a built-in document scanner that can automatically detect the edges of a document, crop it, and apply filters to enhance the scan quality. This eliminates the need for separate scanning apps and makes it easy to digitize documents on the go.
- Extract Text and Save to Notes: With the text extraction feature, Jovi Lens can capture text from images or documents and convert it into editable text. This text can be saved directly to your Notes app for later use or even translated into different languages.
Note that Jovi Lens may not be available on all models. We couldn’t find it on our iQOO 12 (running Funtouch OS 15) or Vivo V40 Pro (running Funtouch OS 14).
When Will Funtouch OS 15 Arrive On Your Phone?
As mentioned, some of the above AI features are exclusive to the latest Funtouch OS 15. So, you may want to know whether your Vivo or iQOO phone is getting the Funtouch OS 15 update and when. Well, check the rollout timeline below.
Flagship phones like Vivo XFold 3 Pro, X100 series, and iQOO 12 have already received the update as of this writing. Other devices will gradually receive it starting with last year’s flagships, such as the Vivo X90 series and iQOO 11, in mid-November 2024 and then moving down to the V-series and budget models.
