90 Day Fiancé star Niles Valentine reacted to rumors that his fiancée, Matilda Nti, was scamming him to obtain a green card.
“At this point, she has stuck with me for more than two years. There is some dedication to keep that mark,” Niles, 28, told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, November 5, when asked about the speculation. “Even if you’re trying to use me for a green card, I admire your dedication.”
Niles jokingly added that he would be “impressed” with Matilda, 23, for committing to the scam if the rumors were true. “She spent the best years of her beauty on me, so I take it as a compliment,” he added.
In addition to discussing the speculation regarding Matilda’s intentions, Niles also revealed whose idea it was to join the show white speaking to Entertainment Tonight. He said that it was actually a “funny” coincidence that both Niles and Matilda were interested in starring on the show, so he reached out and they were ultimately cast.
Matilda and Niles made their reality TV debut during season 7 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. After they introduced their relationship on the show and explained that Matilda “slipped into his DMs out of nowhere,” fans grew concerned that the Ghana native was only pursuing a relationship with Niles in order to obtain a visa.
“At first I thought it was too good to be true because she was very beautiful,” Niles explained during the September 2024 premiere while reflecting on the beginning of their romance. “When she smiles, it does make you feel a type of way, not just because of her beauty either.”
He continued, “I truly love Matilda. Me and Matilda talk every day if we can, we could just still and stare at each other and I will be happy, I’ll be having fun.”
While they got engaged five months before filming, Niles admitted he wasn’t ready for marriage. However, Matilda was clearly on a different page and was excited to start wedding planning.
Their drama continued during the October 21 episode when Niles broke the news that he wanted to postpone their wedding.
“I don’t know what is going on. Maybe it’s a prank. I don’t know,” she told producers after he dropped the bombshell. “Because we discuss about this when he was in the U.S. If he comes here, we’re gonna get married. And he was saying, ‘OK.’ So I’m not OK at all. I feel like dying right now [sic].”
She added that she was angry that Niles allowed her to tell her family about their engagement and start the wedding planning process. “Like, right now it’s like disgracing to me. People will laugh at me,” she said. “So what do you want me to tell them?”
While Niles insisted he wasn’t ready to get married, he promised he wanted to continue their relationship and viewed her engagement ring as a “commitment” for the future.
“I don’t know what to do right now. I don’t know what to do right now,” she replied. “It’s like I’m confused right now. I need to calm down first because I don’t know what is going on right now.”
