Addison Rae doesn’t think “anyone deserves to play” Britney Spears amid casting speculation over the pop legend’s upcoming biopic.
The “Diet Pepsi” singer, 25, was asked in an interview with iHeart Radio, if she’d “ever be down” to play Britney in the biopic — and her answer was definitely surprising.
“That is so nice,” she said in the November 2024 interview. “I honestly don’t think anyone deserves to play Britney. She is such an enigma and such an icon. I don’t even think it’s right to compare me to her at all.”
She continued, “I think she really really created something that is untouchable — and so in its own lane that nobody will ever be able to truly replicate what she did for music, and even the entertainment industry, I feel.”
“I don’t know. I support anything and everything that Britney Spears wants to do in her life and career,” she added. “And I think she’ll have the best opinion in who she thinks that should be — and that’s what I’m gonna lean on.”
Addison proceeded to talk about how she “waited for Barnes & Noble to open their doors when [The Woman In Me] came out.”
The “Aquamarine” singer has long expressed her praise for the “Toxic” singer, and even went viral last year after a photo of her reading The Woman In Me went viral — so much so, that her friend Troye Sivan dressed up like the iconic paparazzi photos for Halloween.
Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu will be taking on the challenge of bringing Britney’s story to life, based on Britney’s bestselling 2023 memoir, produced by Marc Platt.
“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned,” Britney wrote in a post on X after the film’s announcement in 2023.
Since then, casting speculation over who would be playing Britney has taken the internet by storm, with contenders like Addison, Sabrina Carpenter, Sydney Sweeney and Olivia Holt being thrown around. There’s also a buzz about the possibility of casting a “complete unknown” who might bring a fresh take to the role.
