Alan Bersten Was ‘Very Mean’ DWTS Pro, Says Amanda Kloots

Season 30 of Dancing with the Stars featured former Radio City Rockette and Broadway star, Amanda Kloots. In a tragic twist of fate, Amanda lost her husband, Nick Cordero, due to COVID-19 complications. She wrote about him in her memoir, Live Your Life: My Story of Loving and Losing Nick Cordero. My heart aches for her. However, it is her experience with another man that is on her mind. When Amanda was partnered with Alan Bersten for Season 30, it sounds like it was a rough experience.

Recently, Amanda was a guest on the podcast, Boyfriend Material with Harry Jowsey. As you may recall, Harry took a waltz around the ballroom last season with DWTS pro Rylee Arnold. Naturally, Harry wanted to hear about Amanda’s experience on the show. “Did Alan really push
you? Because I feel like he can be a bossy b*tch sometimes,” Harry remarked.

“Oh my gosh. Yes,” Amanda replied. “Alan … I think Alan has grown up a lot in the last couple of years. And I know I’m saying [that] this and I know that he’ll agree with me.” She added, “I helped him become a nicer person, in teaching.”

Harry responded, “Wait, he was mean before this?” Amanda said, “He was very mean to me. But I think it’s because he, you know, Russian, growing up Russian, growing up in that Russian dance atmosphere. And he did see a lot of potential in me.” She continued, “And he saw that we could possibly win this thing. And I think when a pro has a star that has that potential, they can get very mean because they’re like ‘I could win.'”

The dancer went on to allege that she was “yelled at.” Then she also noted that “he could get mean, but then we had a blast, too.” Now, this isn’t the first time that a DWTS cast member has criticized Alan. Kaitlyn Bristowe, who starred in The Bachelorette, slammed Alan and fellow pro Artem Chigvintsev. During Season 29, Artem and Kaitlyn won the Mirrorball. However, Kaitlyn made some eye-brow-raising comments about Artem and Alan. “Well, they’re all d*cks. They’re all d*cks,” Kaitlyn said. Plus she called Alan, “Crazy in the ballroom.”

During Season 33 of DWTS, Alan is dancing with Olympian Ilona Maher. He has been supportive and positive. The duo has such a tight bond that the fans are shipping them. In addition, Alan spoke up for Ilona when he thought that the judges were underscoring her. Perhaps Alan has matured, or the dynamics of his partnership with Amanda were different somehow.

Dancing with the Stars Season 33 finale airs on Tuesday, November 26 at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+.
