Alec Baldwin is still talking about the Rust shooting and the loss of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. It’s something he can’t forget about, but the 66-year-old actor would also like to move forward to put some of the sadness behind him, especially since it had a huge impact on his marriage to Hilaria Baldwin.
Describing the accident as “the most difficult thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life” to Variety, Alec revealed how concerned he was about Hilaria in the aftermath. “Beyond the victims themselves, the thing that most pains me is what it did to my wife,” he said. “My wife has been very, very traumatized from this. There has been a lot of pain.”

Everything had been smooth sailing for Alec, Hilaria, and their seven kids until that fateful day in October 2021. “When you are married to somebody, and everything was going fairly well, and we had seven kids … and the floor falls out. It’s very frightening and very disturbing. And we are trying to get the wind in our sails, to get away from this stuff,” he admitted. “Because the film doesn’t stand by itself. It’s always going to be overshadowed by this.“
One way the Baldwin family is moving forward is with their upcoming TLC reality show, The Baldwins. The series is expected to launch in 2025, but crew members from the set criticized Alec for his attitude in August. “Alec thinks he’s filming a movie, not a cheap reality show. He doesn’t seem to understand there is no script or lines for him to learn,” a source told In Touch Weekly. The insider seemed to think that the production was going to be a “disaster” because the actor “thinks he knows best, on everything from the storylines to the camera angles to the lighting.”
The control narrative was also something Rust director Joel Souza, who was wounded in the shooting, mentioned in his August interview with Vanity Fair. “I had to make it crystal clear that if I’m coming back, creatively I am going to have what I want. There was not going to be a discussion about it, and that’s that,” Souza told the media outlet. “I was just all over the place emotionally during that whole second shoot.”
It sounds like it’s a long road back for Alec, who knows that there’s always a warm welcome at Saturday Night Live, but other doors have officially closed for good.
